Wow. I'd say I'm glad I don't like this movie but that doesn't bode well for the Dragon Dynasty releases I'm am looking forward to arrive on BD.

okay, maybe it's my eyes.. but these pictures don't look bad - and actually look a tad sharper than the Criterion. No?

I can't imagine anyone saying the non-anamorphic, damage heavy Criterion print is by any means, superior.

I thought they were ok as well, but then again my expectations weren't exactly super high. I just don't think there is enough market for these films to give them super high end remasters. I'll be picking this up even if it is just a smidge above the dvd. Still beats the days of having to watch all my favorite HK flicks on VHS/VCD/etc.

Let the moaning continue.

I'm still buying it, it looks better than what I have and I have no illusions about this versions being bested any time soon.

I don't know, the colors look much better on the DD Blu-Ray. Nothing amazing at all about the transfer but not the trainwreck some people are making it out to be. I'll still pick it up as I sold my Criterion years ago.

Yea, the DD might be the best out there, but I'm not rewarding these guys by forking over $20 for putting out shite.

No but IMO the Hong Kong Legends version, which I upgraded to from the Criterion, is superior to the BD in all but one of the shots. And that shot looks artificially edge enhanced. In fact there seems to be less image detail in the BD most likely due to excessive DNR after the edge enhancement. Yes overall the HKL DVD is the better version.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

Transfer isn't that great but its a definite improvement over my Fox Lorber dvd. Don't have the HKL one. I'll probably bite.

Given they also screwed up 36th Chamber Of Shaolin, I'd say yeah.

Here's something interesting:

These bozos did this on the cheap by using a PAL source for their NTSC release. Calling them monkeys is an insult to monkeys.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

Anyone else decide to pick this up ?? I ordered it, as I had already ebayed my Fox Lorber edition a while ago. The reviews are a little disappointing, but I don't think this film will ever get the 5 star dvd/bd treatment it deserves. I'm just wondering how the upcoming Fist of Legend BD will fair. The DD version was kind of a letdown (the DD 5.1 authoring was off IMO), so I'm holding my breath on this release.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

Mine came in the mail today. Yes, I'm sure it is another letdown by DD, but at the same time I don't have the film & this is still probably the best looking version.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

The quality is subpar, not what you would expect from Blu-ray. Definitely don't get rid of your Criterion. I'd be interested in hearing what others think.

Re: The Killer ---> 3/30/2010

Yeah...even if this is a lame BD release, I still have a BD player, and currently this is a dollar cheaper than the DVD on Amazon. None of the existing releases look very good, from what I understand, so even if it is a fairly crappy release, are there any options out there that are significantly better?

They sat on the rights for over a decade... only to release this?

Unforgiveable.

I cancelled my order, and put the movie into my Netflix queue. Even though this is one of my favorite movies of all time, it doesn't make sense to drop $20 on such sloppy work.
