Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

Can anyone comfirm for sure a dvd copy is included? The Lensview review on beaver mentioned a digital copy in the extras, but no mention of dvd. Is the dvd on the digital copy disc as well?

Just wondering because I don't own a blu ray player yet, but still buy Blu/dvd combos so I don't have to double dip in the future.

Thanks!

Its a DVD/DC disc in the USA. Both one one disc. DVD Beaver is based out of Canada and he obtains all his copies from retailers/rental stores and for some reason, Warner only does DC and not DC/DVD combo discs in Canada.

Yes, a DVD copy will be included if you buy a copy that comes with a slipcover that indicates it is a combo pack....be careful though, as Warner only prints a limited number of initial copies with the slipcover/DVD/DC, and as we have seen with their other BD releases since instituting this policy, both combo and non-combo versions seem to be on store shelves even on the first day of availability....

That is very smart, good for you!

Just be warned that when I checked the DVD/DC of The Informant, it was barebones even though the regular DVD was supposed to have additional scenes... Not a big deal on most of Warner's new releases as they're including more exclusives on the BD anyway.

I think even if the DVD version has extras, the "value" version in the Blu-ray does not. That's how The Final Destination was too. I assume it's so someone can't sell it as a retail dvd.

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

That's true, just saying that anyone buying the BD with the DVD (before owning a Blu-ray player) should know the DVD in the case has no features...

And Sony is doing that as well with their kids movies (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Planet 51).

Yeah, just the film. This is so people can't resell the DVD on the open market and advertise it like it's the full DVD. There is no SKU for it (unlike Disney titles which usually include Disc 1 of the DVD in the BD releases).

Yes, I know. Just said it so when people (who do not own a Blu-ray player yet) know that the DVD copy they are getting has no features don't complain...

Amazon dropped the price to $19.99. It was in my goldbox so I snagged it. Thankfully a girl at work pays me $8 for each DVD/DC, so for $11, I'll take it. Ponyo will find up costing me only a few dollars thanks to the $10 Disney coupon

Gonna be pretty selective on buying new releases right away for awhile, but I made an exception for this one.

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

I stopped in a smaller Target store this morning and they only received 8 copies, but all were the combo packs. I think there will be plenty out there since this is a PG rated film. I would guess WB produced alot of these to try to get the families to make a purchase.

Do you think Amazon will refund the difference for those who pre-ordered before the price drop? The price has since gone back up.

Amazon was showing the 2 Disc set cover art but has since changed over to the 1 disc...I better get a 2 discer!

At Target, did you see Ponyo?

Yes. They only had 2 copies out. Both of these films were in their small family section display, which is usually near the main New Release section.

I noticed the Amazon listing also saying 1 disc is included.

I'll just buy from whereever sells the 2 Disc version and return my 1 discer from Amazon. Same SKU.

Price-matched the Target price at Best Buy today so I could get the reward points. They only had four copies out on the shelf though, and I was there at opening time.

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

All the BD copies of this that I saw while out today at every store (Target, Walmart, Costco, Best Buy, Moviestop) were of the combo pack as well....as others have mentioned, I guess Warner did this one right and really upped the press run this time...

Looks like it. I'm sure it'll be the same for Sherlock Holmes and Blind Side. But the smaller films like The Informant and The Box will probably be much more limited with the combo packs.

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

Went to Best Buy and since I've never bought a combo Blu-Ray before I wanted to make sure I got the right one. There's a sticker on the combo Blu-rays saying they have a blu-ray, dvd, and dc, but when I asked the sales guy just to be sure he said he didn't know and asked about 7 employees, looked it up on the computer and then said that he didn't think the combo version existed.

Luckily the incompetence of the entire store got me to go to Target, where I saw the same DVDs and took a chance and bought one, sure enough it's the combo release and it's about 7 dollars cheaper at Target.

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

There is only ONE SKU for Where the Wild Things Are. Just ONE. When they stop including the DVD/DC (probably already), it will still be the same SKU. Warner has always done this. ONE SKU.

Slip Cover = DVD/DC
No Slip Cover = No DVD/DC (typically, but some stores remove Slip Covers so they can fit into locking cases.

Just tap the Blu-ray case - can you hear two discs in it? Grab another Blu-ray movie that is ONE DISC Only, do they weigh the same?

Re: Where The Wild Things Are - 3/2/10

Very tempted to blind-buy this for $19.99 but I've been so good with stopping my blind-buying. I'm not sure if I'll like it. It would help my decision if stupid Netflix didn't have the Blu-Ray delayed.
