re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

We teased the following weeks ago but now we will confirm it: THE AMITYVILLE HORROR TRILOGY (consisting of the '79 original, the '82 prequel and the '83 3D entry) will be making its way from us in a Blu-ray collection set before Halloween. That’s a lot of bleeding walls, flies, demons, possessed family members in HD! More specifics (extras, street date, etc.) to emerge in the Summer.

It seemed to bode well for the Gamera movies on MST3K.

This is starting to turn out like I've predicted in the Bluray sales thread: the major studios aren't seeing the returns they've had in the past, so they're more likely to farm this stuff out to the boutique labels.

I'm cool with it, frankly. The studios were usually only interested in the big titles, but all this horror/scifi stuff is where the collectors are going to be.

Really happy about INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN and AMITYVILLE Trilogy. I just watched the creepy In Search Of... 1979 Amityville Horror episode (folks, buy the DVD release of that show, it's fabulous!). The serendipity of this news is welcomed!

I just wanted to chime in and say that you horror fiends are so lucky to have Scream Factory. Despite having little to no interest in b-horror, I'm tempted to pick up some of these titles just because of the fact that they seem to do such great justice to their library. My b genre of choice is kung-fu, so I was initially ecstatic that Shout had picked up some of the Jackie Chan titles. Talk about a kick in the nuts.

Definitely in for the Amityville set. I never bought the original BD, so bonus for me.

Does that mean the third movie will actually be in 3D? That could be fun. The Amityville movies aren't my favorites, but I can see myself picking the set up if it reaches a good price. I have almost bought the first one a couple of times. I'm now glad I waited.

I bought the first AMITYVILLE Blu cheap years ago. Hoping that Scream Factory will blow that encode out of the water (or, if you prefer: the house). Hoping for high bitrate, no DNR, no edge-enhancement. SF screwed up on THEY LIVE by slathering EE and DNR all over the image). Filling up the discs with extras isn't important, just give us great, roomy encodes on BD50s for these releases, please.

The MGM disc was done in 2006...so yeah, hopefully 7 years later they do a new encode.

It'd be nice if they did an full collection and not just the first 3.

Man I would love Peter Jackson's Meet The Feebles and Bad Taste... Not sure if they would release these on Blu, but someone needs to ASAP!

I love everything in that art until the pirates... I wish it was just a foggy silhouette since none of those guys look like anything from the movie.

Agreed. The silhouettes still creep me out in the movie. Far too much detail here.

'I Come In Peace' (1990) = 'Sometime in August'

I've never understood why they don't just buckle down, it's readily available in every corner of the Internet, why not at least make some money from it?

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing. Hopes dashed. I'm more interested in how the rights to them drifted away from Dragon Dynasty's death grip. It sucks being a Hong Kong cinema fan almost as much as its sucks being an OOT fan . Well, OK, not that much, but there are so many damn releases and none of them are ever correct. I wonder if they'd ever look at the wierdo cult movie Angel Dust? Apparently even the Japanese release for that one is bad. But that has nothing to do with anything. I should stop posting and go to bed, my brain is scrambling.

Scream Factory is really giving us some good stuff. I'm definitely in for The Amityville Horror Trilogy set and I pre-ordered The Burning and The Fog. Never seen The Burning but have always heard great things about it and have meant to see it for ages.

Also the artwork for Swamp Thing. Fricken awesome.

AWESOME!!!!!! This isn't even readily available on dvd, I think its one of those Burn on Demand ones (under a different name too). There is an awesome song by Shooting Star at the end of this film which is what led me to start listening to the band (and collecting many cds and albums as well). So certain buy for me.

Awesome cover for Swamp Thing. I wonder if we will get the European cut with boobs!

^ No, we aren't. Shout has already said they can't obtain the rights.

Without the European cut, I have little interest in Swamp Thing. I didn't expect them to get the rights, has that version ever been released on home video in America?

Wasn't it released on DVD way back when and then recalled shortly after?
