Re: The One and Only Shout! Factory Blu-ray Thread

Wow, commentary track from Tom Atkins! I'll likely buy the two Halloweens direct from Shout for the poster and, uh, nurse's hat. I wish Deadly Blessing were Blu-ray as well though, crappy as it is. I'm really pleased that the covers will be reversible with original poster art. Can we look forward to Shocker and Prince of Darkness in the future?

Re: The One and Only Shout! Factory Blu-ray Thread

The phrasing makes me think DVD-only:

and the much-anticipated DVD debuts of DEADLY BLESSING, directed by Wes Craven (Scream) and featuring Sharon Stone in an early role, and DEATH VALLEY starring Peter Billingsley (A Christmas Story).
Wouldn't they write 'much-anticipated Blu-ray and DVD debuts?' if the titles were being released on both formats?

And (hopefully) an improved transfer.

Probably semantics, I hope, since they know fans want them on BD.

Now, they really need to acquire more titles for Wave 2. I'm hoping Prince of Darkness is a lock at some point.

Love the art for both Halloween flicks. I'm definitely in for both.

Halloween II...again?

Well, we now know why Universal randomly decided to release the Blu-ray. They were selling the rights and wanted to make a little extra cash off fans. Thanks Universal!

Shout wants $24 for Halloween 2 and $30 for Halloween 3. Wowzers!

Although Shout does release quite a few DVD-only titles.

Now, they really need to acquire more titles for Wave 2. I'm hoping Prince of Darkness is a lock at some point.
Other future possibilities, in addition to the titles already mentioned (list of all Universal horror films released during the 1980's with no HD release):

Burned at the Stake
Psycho II
Nightmares
Slayground
Psycho III
Serpent and the Rainbow
Shocker
Watchers

And, all of Universal's not-yet-released 1990's horror output:

The Guardian
Child's Play II
Child's Play III
The People Under the Stairs
Dr. Giggles
Phantasm III
Demon Knight
Village of the Damned

Those are list prices, the other Shout discs have dropped as low as $15 on Amazon.

Well, I was hoping that Halloween II would be Rosenthal's original cut, since we have the theatrical cut already from Universal. Looks like I'll be hanging onto that one, for Terror In The Aisles, and I'll grab both II and III from Shout as well.

As far as the other titles announced, I'm also definitely in for Phantasm II and They Live. As much as I like The Funhouse, as I've said before, I've already got Arrow's Blu-Ray, so I'll see how this one compares...

Rosenthal's cut is the one that occasionally (or did) air on Cable, right? Alternate ending?

Yeah, to my understanding, Rosenthal's cut is the TV cut.

Same here - other than a Hooper commentary and Berridge interview, I'm not sure what Shout could do to improve on the Arrow release.

Awesome. Day one for Halloween III and likely Halloween II shortly after. Looking forward to future announcements. I'll be buying as many of these releases as possible to support the new line.

I'm seeing reports that The Island and Death Valley are going to be on a double-feature and DVD only.

I'm sure it will be, Shout (or Scream in this case) hasn't disappointed me yet, although I recall some criticism of their Stepfather transfer. Damnation Alley was a terrible movie, but that's not their fault.

I've been very happy with the Shout titles I've purchased on Blu-ray. My biggest complaint regarding Shout's titles is that they tend to have a higher price tag and don't tend to drop in price too much. I keep saying that I'm going to catch up with the other Shout titles I'm interested in when I get a better job. Still waiting ...

Loathe as I am to give them any business, many Shout titles are around $15 right now at DD.
