I'm not saying combo discs are the end of the world or anything, but if there's a generally accepted approach no one has a problem with vs. an option that's annoying people (even if it's just a gripe with the concept), why go the less-liked direction?
Cause I'm sure Universal is deploying some sort of patent they made on the HD DVD Combo disc and are trying to get it to catch on some other studios follow suite with means more $ for them. Really, it's not a bad idea (no extra DVD disc to be sold/given away), I'm just afraid that over time they won't work. I have yet to run into a problem with HD DVD Combo's....but I still have no need for a DVD copy of anything I buy on Blu-ray.

This. I hate the trend of including a DVD copy, or a digital copy, with almost all BD releases these days. Just more junk. I miss the early days when we had simple single disc BD releases, or 2-disc BD releases that were actualy 2-disc BD releases and not 1 BD and 1 digital copy DVD.

If I had to choose, I suppose I'd take the two separate discs, but it's really not that big a deal.

Although digital copies can suck my cock.

One day, I would love to see Blu-ray + Digital Copy CD Combo flipper.

I'd actually rather have the 'digital copy' on the other side of the movie disc than on a separate disc- either way, I'm not going to use it.

Not really something to brag about, being able to fit it through that center hole.

I love those digital copy releases. I toss the disc and swap the case for a single disc one, giving me a nice 2-disc case to use for a catalog release I already had the DVD of.

Oh yeah, it's a great use of those cases. I made my own Speed SE, by throwing in the second (special features) disc of the 2-DVD set.

I only keep the ones that are single-sided, anamorphic widescreen transfers. The crap discs go. I was kind of pissed when I bought the Rollerball BD and the damn flipper disc was included.

Ditto. I did that for Die Another Day, and another one I can't think of right now.

Only disc I've ever kept was the second disc from The Departed. I still don't know why they couldn't have ported over that Scorsese documentary on the Blu.

True, but I think it really belonged with The Aviator, since it was produced just before that came out, and TA is the last movie covered.

I saw on Amazon that The Jackal (Bruce Willis) and Out of Africa are now up for pre-order. Release date is 4/27/10. I would like to upgrade both of these, but not as flippers. This is a downgrade.

I took advantage of Amazon's $5 off deal and got Traffic and Spartacus for $30.98. Traffic was shipped today, so it'll arrive on Tuesday. It's supposed to be a new HD master. The shots from DVD Beaver look good and much improved over the dvd edition. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Universal put some effort into Spartacus.

From the reviews, "Out Of Africa" suffers from some very heavy DNR, so while the picture is clear, all grain and a lot of detail has been scrubbed from it.

Yeah, that's disappointing. Sounds like that transfer was probably done a few years back. Traffic is supposed to be an improvement. I just hope they put some effort into Spartacus. I'll be surprised if they did.
