So we have a unique HD version, and the film really hasn't looked better.

Impressive slate of upcoming dual-format releases, from MoC's site:

#22 THE INSECT WOMAN (SHÔHEI IMAMURA, 1963)
#26 TWO-LANE BLACKTOP (MONTE HELLMAN, 1971)
#27 REPO MAN (ALEX COX, 1984)
#28 LE SILENCE DE LA MER (JEAN-PIERRE MELVILLE, 1949)
#29 PUNISHMENT PARK (PETER WATKINS, 1971)
#31 ACCATTONE (PIER PAOLO PASOLINI, 1961)
#32 THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW (PIER PAOLO PASOLINI, 1964)
The Insect Woman includes Nishi Ginza Station, and Accattone includes Love Meetings. Two-Lane Blacktop and Repo Man are limited edition Blu-only releases.

They'll also be releasing Ruggles of Red Gap (spine #30) and the omnibus film Ro.Go.Pa.G (with short films from Rossellini, Godard, Pasolini, and Ugo Gregoretti) in dual-format.

It's a great lineup, and I'm really loving these dual-format releases - it means that I'll be buying at least half of them immediately, even though I don't yet have a region-free BD player.

I'll probably stick with my DVDs of all of those, and wait for a discounted Ruggles of Red Gap.

I love Le Silence de la mer. I'd like to upgrade that one.

If you don't care about getting the steelbook edition of Silent Running, you can pre-order what looks like a non-steelbook limited edition for very cheap at Amazon.co.uk:

What a bargain! I'll gladly pass up the packaging for that price. I wonder if it's a mistake.

Re: The Official Masters of Cinema Blu-ray Thread

For under 10 USD, I can live without the Steelbook.

That's the only difference between the two releases, right?
