I suppose, but this was a re-release Rodriguez was talking about before the standard DVD was even out. To me that's not so much of a double-dip and more of a staggered window between the first DVD and the second DVD. For something to qualify as a double-dip, I think it has to be a) unexpected and/or b) more than a year has to pass between the two releases.

=RobLutter;10335262... the theatrical version has much better pacing. The first 20 minutes of Death Proof still puts me to sleep though... in either version. lol.
I agree the theatrical version of the film works far better than the separate extended cuts. I disagree that Death Proof drags in the first half though of the theatrical version. That was always my favorite portion of the film. It does drag severely in the extended version however, and the second half is even worse. The theatrical version of Death Proof cuts out most of the bloat, and is actually well paced once you get used to the film itself, but the first half of the film still remains superior. Though the finale is awesome,it's a bit of a chore to get there since I really don't like the second group of characters introduced, but they're just a tad less annoying in the theatrical cut than the bloated extended version that drags on and on.

The only Rodriguez title to get repeatedly visited on DVD was Desperado (and maybe El Mariachi?). It was issued as a barebones, a Superbit, a double feature (w/a few extras) and finally as a Special Edition, as well as being apart of at least two box sets.

The two-disc is definitely a double dip, but doesn't getting packaged with other previously released movies really considered a double dip?

I wish Alliance would release a From Dusk Till Dawn Triple Pack on Blu like they did with Halloween

Yeah, I would only count the one-disc and the 2-disc as rereleases. The one with the white border is just a Wal-Mart version of the box set, and both box sets contain one or the other of the stand-alone releases.

But that's still an example of a Rodriguez title getting a basic release and then a deluxe release. This version of Grindhouse is the "deluxe" release.

I would maintain that this is the basic release given that it does not contain the extended versions and that there will be a deluxe version sometime in the next 5 or so years. But we'll see. I'll probably end up buying this set on sale in 3-4 years for $5-$10.

If this is the "basic" version, than the stand-alone extended cuts were the "deluxe" version. Either way, they've released it twice and I don't think you'll be seeing any others (particularly since 90% of the film's fans would either a) only like one version or the other, or b) they've already bought the releases that came out before).

[After looking at Amazon again] I was unaware that the Extended versions had been released on BD, for some reason I thought they were only out on DVD.

Taking that into consideration I still think there will be another release down the pipe. Maybe just a little later now but before 4k.

I guess I don't get the appeal of saying "hmmm, rather than get everything I want now, I'll wait five years for the same exact things to possibly be bundled together".

Now I can't tell if your kidding or really don't know what 4k is.

@Adam it's all about the Benjamins. I try to maximize my collection/enjoyment there of with the moneys I got. Also after years and years of being burnt by new special editions I get a feeling for what kinds of films will double dip.

I was wrong on The Last Samurai though...

Your instincts are in the right place, the only issue is THIS is the double dip that you should be feeling.
