December's always light for Criterion releases - they rarely put out more than one or two titles during that month.

I'll get both, but I REALLY hope they use the old box art design for the new Videodrome!

But the Betamax reproduction wouldn't really work in a Blu-ray case, size-wise.

Nice. Glad to hear it.

It'll be in retro-DVD packaging.

This is the only sadness in upgrading Videodrome. The DVD packaging is one of the coolest in my collection.

I just emailed Jon Mulvaney about how the BBS box will be packaged.

Even though I knew that that was probably going to be the case (no pun intended) I was holding out hope that each would be in a separate plastic case.

blu-ray.com review: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Da.../11305/#Review

might want to cancel your pre-orders or at least pay attention for an official word from criterion...looks like there might be a glitch with the video.

note the 2 vertical blue lines at the back of schwartzman's head

EDIT: disregard the above.

I'm surprised/bummed that we didn't get Fanny & Alexander by Christmas this year. It always seemed to me like kind of a holiday-ish movie, so I hope that doesn't mean a 12 month wait until 2011...

Those blue lines are on Fox's DVD, as well, and they fluctuate with the movement of their heads. Likely a refraction from the florescent light in the room.

the Swedish bluray import of the theatrical cut is quite lovely and is better than Criterion's transfer

Yes, but I'm holding out for both cuts on Blu.

I think it is optical, like lens flare, and therefore not a glitch

This Rhino Monkees contest gives us a glimpse at the BBS box packaging.

That's not a glitch (like the site now says, it's a lens flare).

I wouldn't cancel my pre-order even if it was a glitch (it's on screen for a few seconds). Its not Gangs of NY bad

I'm sure not many people besides cinephiles, and in my city aka Denton with a shit ton of film majors, will care about the film. I'm sure you'll get one. I'm holding off for the next sale....I hate myself for that.

It's not that I think they'll sell out, it's that only 1 of the 9-10 Best Buys in the Orlando area seems to put out Criterions early, and it's a different store every time.

9-10?

I must not travel out of my neighborhood too often.

DVD Beaver on The Magician
Not much in the way of extras (no Cowie commentary?), but those are some spectacular screen-caps!

I must admit I recently watched my UK DVD edition of 'The Magician' and - nah... it didn't impress me... and I'm a Bergman fan.

Really? I was quite impressed with it, particularly the visuals. I'm hoping Criterion puts out HD upgrades of the other Tartan discs.
