Since Rashomon toured with a new print this year, that one wouldn't be a stretch. Same rationale works for Mr. Hulot's Holiday. Both would be great news, but Rashomon will check an item off of my personal top five wish list.

Could it be FWWM?

I've seen most of David Lynch's movies, but that doesn't strike me as anything familiar. Is it a reference to Twin Peaks (which I have not seen)? They wouldn't put out a TV series on Criterion...

I see a Wacky C doughnut. It seems more of a hint than a breakfast photo, but I don't know what for.

I guess you've never seen Twin Peaks - coffee and donuts figured quite prominently on the show and in the film.
I'd dig a Criterion release of the Twin Peaks pilot. After that, the series slowly went downhill and the movie was terrible, IMO. Maybe those are Stan Mikita doughnuts and we're looking at a Criterion Wayne's World boxset? Maybe they were just enjoying their breakfast this morning and wanted to share? |

Why are people so excited for the possibility of "Fire Walk With Me"? It's not a good movie, and almost single handedly destroyed everything that was good about Twin Peaks.

And, more generally, the film seems to have a gained a pretty large following in the past twenty years, with many considering it among Lynch's best work. So it's not too much of a surprise that people would be excited for the possibility of it receiving a Criterion release. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
 A Complete Twin Peaks set would be unreal, but I'm skeptical over whether Criterion a) would just release FWWM, or b) could get their hands on the property anyway. Fun fantasy, that's for sure.

Yeah, were there even any donuts in Twin Peaks? I thought it was just pie...

Blue Velvet is one of my personal top 20 movies, and I'd be thrilled to no end to see a Criterion Blu-ray released. However, what it has to do with a picture of doughnuts, I (despite a couple dozen viewings) will probably never know. I'm having a hard enough time making a tenuous connection between that picture and Twin Peaks. If that picture can mean Blue Velvet, it just as well could mean The Elephant Man.

Despite the screenshot, I don't think the donuts were a prominent recurring motif, at least not as much as a number of other things from Twin Peaks. I find all this speculation to be a pretty significant stretch.
Nevertheless, I'll be more than happy to eat crow as I dig Lynch quite a bit and would love to see some of his material released by Criterion. |

I just got my MK2 FWWM blu-ray from France this week, so pretty much a guarantee that Criterion announces it today.

It's a question of rights issues. Blue Velvet, being an MGM property, is more likely to receive a Criterion release than The Elephant Man, which if anything would be a Lionsgate port of the Studio Canal release.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I wonder if there's a significance to some of the donuts being square, and some being round.
I would also love FWWM on Blu-ray. I think it's a truly inspired film, probably the creepiest Lynch has ever made. It's certainly a cut above the Palme D'Or winning Wild At Heart. |

Oh, I'll definitely get The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, but the other two don't seem very interesting. Seems like a pretty sparse month...

I'll say this, though, Criterion makes a damn fine pie. Heck, this must be where pies die and go to heaven.
