why do you say that? I've actually noticed my neighborhood Best Buy carry MORE Criterion titles.

Am I crazy or do some of those screenshots look really orange? It's been a while since I popped in my LG copy of Chronos on DVD to compare.

I said new titles. The last new one they got in was The Thin Red Line. Everything after that, including all announced pre-orders, show as "not available" for store pickup, which means they won't be carrying them.

Well, "Chronos" with an 'h' is a completely different beast, but... ;)

I think the screenshots have a darker look to them on my monitor at work, but since the transfer is approved by del Toro there's no room for me to complain. Plus, none of the computer monitors I view at work or home have any kind of calibration like my tv does, so I'm sure it'll look even better.

The screenshots over at criterionforum.org don't look nearly as orange to me as the DVDBeaver shots.

Review copy. Didn't expect to get it so soon. Loving the packaging of it.

I need to find my DVD copy of the film so I can do some comparisons.

Is there special packaging for it? Pics?

I know the DVD release looked like a Videotape, which was rad.

Pictures were posted a page before.

Comes with a pretty nice booklet as well. Really happy Criterion kept the packaging the same.

From anyone in the L.A. area, Guillermo del Toro is going to be doing a signing for "Cronos" on 12/7 @ 5pm @ Amoeba. I may try to attend.

It would be great to go, but there is no chance that I can attend, so I'm out here and still no dice. Ah, work.

I went ahead and ordered both Cronos and Videodrome from DDD (I know they're slow as shit). Each of them came out to 23 and some change after using the 25 off. Thanks for that review NoirFan!

Too bad Criterion couldn't hold off on their Blu-ray until the Fox restoration, but the forced subs make the (Region B I assume?) French disc a pass.

Hi everyone. This is my first time in this thread. I'm not sure why I haven't been following it consider my love of Criterion. Anyway...Question:

Where's the best place to get the latest rumors regrading Criterion Blu-ray releases?

scuse my language, but that fucking sucks....

what's with the aspect ratio? I thought DVDBeaver stated the negative AR was 2.25, the restoration looks like 2.35

Not exclusively Blu-ray, but this thread on the Criterion Forum is a good resource.

It's actually 2.55:1, which is odd. Criterion/BFI used 2.21:1 because that was the AR of the 70mm enlargements. Some of the DVD editions are 2.35:1 because that was presumably the AR of the 35mm 'Scope reductions. Maybe they were wrong and the 'Scope prints were actually 2.55:1 -- in the U.S. 2.55:1 was dead by the end of the fifties, but perhaps Italy stuck with it longer.
