Those captures look gorgeous.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I sold my sealed DVD of Night to Remember in anticipation of the blu-ray, but the half.com buyer is saying that the disc is blank, and is returning it. Now I will be stuck with an opened copy that is worth much less if the disc ends up being okay. I'll still pick up the blu-ray though, since I had rented the DVD and loved it.

I'ved owned an unplayable a Night to Remember before. It work when I first got it and a few years afterwards; it was unplayable. Probably disc rot and I wound up returning to CC for a playable disc so I think the buyer claim is legit unless like Shannon Nutt said: he totally swapped it for a DVD-r and relabeled it.

I'm really waiting on getting all, I believe, 18 Zatoichi films that CC has on BD at some point. I'd buy the whole damn lot of them.
*Noticed 14 was on their Hulu channel. Hopefully this means they got the DVD/BR rights as well. |

One could only hope. I really wish they could get their hands on 14, Zatoichi's Pilgrimage. From what I read Miramax owned the rights for a while and then they reverted back to Katsu's estate.

I have the David Lean set on pre-order with Amazon. $70 is pretty steep considering it will be available for $50 (or less) in July, but I figured if I get it now its monetary impact will be long gone and I'll be able to get more stuff in July.

Gold Rush finally? (EDIT: Or what about a BD upgrade of Night Train to Munich? Swiss Alps...) Btw, where does Criterion post these images? Couldn't find it in their Current. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
On facebook.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
DOWNHILL RACER would be awesome but i'm pretty sure it's GOLD RUSH
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Correct me if I'm wrong but The Kid and City Lights should surely follow at some point as well?

Or a BD upgrade for Downhill Racer. That JPEG looks more snowy than gold-laden. Any other chilly-mountain possibilities?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I wonder if the blurred out frames are still present in the baptism scene... (there's a few spots of full frontal nudity that were smudged out, similar to what they did for luke's speeder in the original ANH)

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Got my copy of Godzilla yesterday. Great set - not sure if this was already pointed out - but major fail on Criterion's part for using a Godzilla design from the early '00s for the pop-up. I don't know why they didn't use the suit featured in the original film.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Kind of a fun thing Criterion is doing here at SXSW - they're hiding BD's and DVD's all over town. Only problem is the entire wifi network is drained due to the influx of people here, so it's almost impossible to get a signal to see what the clues are.
We hid a bunch of Blu-rays and DVDs around Austin for #SXSW. Keep up on @foursquare: http://ow.ly/9zW3v |

Wifi network? Unlimited data.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Wifi, 3G, 4G, CB, you name it - it's all hosed within the 5 square miles downtown.

http://i6.cmail4.com/ei/r/BA/85D/55A...8/wackydog.jpg Is tomorrow announcement day? If so, here are my guesses: 39 Steps Shallow Grave The Gold Rush Grey Gardens Weekend Lonesome That's probably too many English-language releases though. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Home Theater Forum says that the release date for Harold and Maude has been bumped back to June 12. Apparently no explanation has been offered.
