You're not the only one. I've been holding off on upgrading my Wes Anderson DVDs to Criterion Blurays hoping Criterion would do a collection of sorts but seems not likely for awhile. The flash sale seemed to be the cheapest way (even in US to Canadian conversion) to get all 8 of his Criterion flicks. Still keeping eyes open.
Do they usually do two a year? One February and one October or so?

It has been in March before. It will more than likely be on Tuesday.

They've got to be as they ship from Toronto but I gather it doesn't hurt to send them an email. I found them on Twitter as they were advertising each Flash Sale for Canadians to use their site. Seems they may only offer select Criterions during the sales and haven't latched on to all of them but good to have them in mind.

If you haven’t used Unobstructed View so far YMMV depending on your orders. They are a Canadian company and their prices are in Canadiandollars which helps tremendously for us. However, I used them only one time for my Arrow Shaw Brothers set, so far,and noticed that they charge your card right away and not when your item ships. They also charge for shipping so if you can find the movie on Amazon, if you use Prime, it may end up being cheaper.
They also sells discs from the small boutique companies like VS, Severin, etc. so in that regard they are worth trying out. Check out the other site and look for the company thread under Canadian Movie deals to read some of the user’s experiences.

Thanks for conveying your experience with this company, Lorenzo. It gives one pause. I don't know of many professional online retailers that charge one's CC before the order has shipped.

Yesasia, Vinegar Syndrome they charge when ordered not when ship. A lot do this actually. I don’t like it, but I haven’t been steered wrong thus far. Better to not charge, but some do. Diabolik too, maybe?

How have you guys not heard of Unobstructed View? It's been discussed in few places (including previous Criterion sale threads), for instance:
https://forum.dvdtalk.com/store-foru...l#post14012070
As a followup to my complaint, in that post, I tracked down the owner and emailed him, directly, about the issues I was having. Mysteriously, I received my order within a week after that email.
Regardless, as LorenzoL said, it's very YMMV. I know I'm hesitant to order from them, again.

Otherwise, fellow Canucks, I am open to suggestions on how to snaggle me the Anderson flicks without breaking the bank.
I've been thinking of doing one a month for the next 8 months but wouldn't want to do so if I can get in on a sale so close.

I always hold out hope that Amazon will start price matching the UV sales. As much as I like to support small businesses, I also have a reasonable expectation of delivery timelines, as well as feeling I should not have to chase down an order.
I have never completely failed to receive an order, but I don't think I've ever received an order, quickly. I also received a slightly damaged CC order, and as it was a gift, contacted them about getting a replacement. I never heard back on that.
As I said in the other thread, it was particularly annoying that they sent out an email assuring everyone that those issues were a thing of the past, only to turn around and have the exact same experience.

I have not, but I'm away from media for half of the year, as you know. I might give it a try, but it sounds pretty dodgy. It must be a fairly new outfit.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I believe they've been around for a couple of years now, although they moved, at one point, to a larger warehouse. Apparently they also only have one CS rep (Dora), so she was pretty overwhelmed. Not that that is any excuse for slow shipping, or items going on backorder AFTER they've been ordered.
All of which is to say, if the savings are good enough, and you don't mind waiting (and possibly doing a bit of chasing), you could consider them.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Unobstructed View has already lowered their Criterions 45% which I gather is where it will stay? Suppose I won't bulk over $2.50 more a flick or so if it gets me around the import fees and such.
All 8 Wes Anderson films come to a total of
$248.51 CDN
Probably the most I've paid for a single film order but I am a huge Andrerson fan and have been meaning to upgrade the DVDs for awhile. Now we just need Criterions for Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch (the latter being many years off, I imagine
).
I will let everyone know here how it goes with Unobstructed View. All the Blurays were listed as "in stock" when I ordered so we'll see what the turnaround is on shipping. With a backlog of flicks to watch I am in no rush so long as they only charge my card when they ship, as the site said they would. If not, I tend to get antsy when I've paid for something and I don't have it for months.

Yes, they seem to stick to 45% off. They initially went with 40% but upped it for the most recent sales.
Good luck! Let's hope things have improved.

LOL
The Unobstructed View fun begins. They've removed the Flash Sale section of the site but, currently, the order I got in before they took it down still stands.
I imagine they are waiting until noon to put it back up again to match Criterion's but we'll see if they move %45 to %50 and I have to write them to gripe about the price change.

Unobstructed View just e-blasted their Criterion sale (https://unobstructedview.com/criteri..._list_limit=36). Nice to see the discount upped a little at 45% (that seems like a first to these eyes). For me, it's still better to order off the US site (the sale is active there now too) and ship to my US addresses for pickup later.
Like others, I'm a bit surprised at how many Canadians here haven't heard of Unobstructed View considering how much it has come up here in the last couple of years. They're pretty much the only game in town here now, outside of Amazon, but they're really only worth shopping at during sales. And now they have enough boutique brand partnerships and buying power to stay in the game. The owner has a long history in home video distribution (and some film production back in the day, as I recall), so they're not really a dodgy outfit, despite charging cards early. They've been talking for a while about improving their shipping costs, but I'm not sure that's happened yet, which is the second reason I stick with the US Criterion site. The third reason is Criterion's point system.

I was charged no shipping for my order.
My break down for the 8 Wes Anderson Criterion flicks:
Criterion's site. Total including shipping (but excluding any import/brokerage etc.): 182.76 (US) / about $237 CDN
Unobstructed view: $248.51 (no shipping charge)

Not relevant to this thread, but i would also point out that UV occasionally also has decent sales on KL films, and some other labels.
Interesting note in the Flash Sale email: Extra staff is on hand to get the product out fast. I think you have noticed that service has improved and that our Customer Service department is doing a great job responding to your queries. Let us see...

As one without a US Addy, I did the math and while the grand total + shipping in US to CDN conversation was lower than Unobstruceted (about $20), this doesn't factor in duty/import/tax etc and who knows what that will be. Soooo, I went with Unobstructed.
I was charged no shipping for my order.

Have any good sci fi films of note come out since the last sale? The last one I got was The Incredible Shrinking Man and I just got that at B&N by itself.
