Disney and Criterion? *head explode gif*

I wonder how many meetings were held for every aspect of this.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I had trouble believing it was real at first. I saw it this morning on Facebook but I thought it was fanart and then just now I saw it on their official page.

I didn’t realize it already had a 4K release so I’ll gladly add this one. Always glad to see more animation in the collection and one of my favorites to boot.

I think this deserves a separate thread for people that might not read this one all the time, would the mods be okay with that?

I don't really care about Criterion releasing Wall-E but hopefully Disney is open to licensing out other movies from their catalog especially fox movies.

Their announcement says that this is the first release in their collaboration with Pixar, so I can't wait for the CC release of Cars 2.

I wonder if they will avoid the Lassiter directed movies for now based on his ouster from Pixar.

I think we all knew there was going to be a Larry the Cable Guy and Criterion partnership sooner or later.

I did not have this on my 2022 Bingo card but I'm here for it.

If (and it's a big "if") Criterion now has open access to the Disney catalog, I would expect them to go for The Straight Story sooner rather than later. Criterion has a very chummy relationship with David Lynch, who basically doesn't want to work with any home video labels other than Criterion anymore.

I would trade all of your souls for the theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy from Criterion.

Literally the first movie I thought of when I saw the Wall-E news. The Straight Story has received BD releases in just about every country other than the US, Criterion would be making a mistake if they didn't make a go at it on UHD.

This will never happen. Or at least not until Lucas is dead.

Film Forum is screening new 4K restorations of the Antoine Doinel series later this month courtesy of Janus. Hopefully they finally upgrade the DVD set.

Splurged on an eBay purchase to fix Criterion’s mistake. If they do a second volume, I hope they learned their lesson.

I did something similar. I bought an empty 8-disc Viva Elite case off Amazon for $12, my wife found some (very familiar! ) artwork for it at a decent resolution, and we printed it on nice-ish paper at FedEx Office.

Another Unobtructed View update / no update:

-I shipped them off the scratched discs and they arrived the next day. After four days not hearing that they received them I contacted them and was told they had been received.
-However, as now two of the blurays I needed replaced were listed as on BACKORDER, they couldn't ship until ALL FOUR were available
-I sent back a rather disgruntled reply asking them to at least hold the other two so they don't sell out before the two out of stock ones get there / no reply
-Checking the site on Monday I found the two out of stocks were now listed as being available (as were the other two) and wrote them to inform them as my replacements hadn't shipped
-No reply

It's maddening. As it stands, they have my money and I have no discs. I was better off with the scratched ones

Ugh. The shipping nonsense, again. I went through exactly the same thing. Excerpts:

From their CS rep:
Our shipping policy is that we wait until we have at least 80% of an order before we ship. So that is why you haven't received your order yet.

My reply:
I could understand the 80% idea if it was free shipping, since it would be to minimize costs. But since I’m paying for shipping on each item (i.e. there is no discount for shipping multiple items, only a flat rate for each item), I would expect them to ship as they become available.
I’m also concerned that by the time the second item comes back into stock, the first may be out of stock, once again.

It was about a week after that email that I emailed the owner, directly, and had my order ship the next day.

The fact that they charge per item, yet need 80% of the items available, tells me that they're also making money off the shipping fees.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Damn, that's really lame. If they're charging per-item shipping, with no adjustment for multiple items, damn right they should be shipping out what they can when it's on-hand.
That really sucks that you guys have to deal with that.
That's one thing I miss about brick & mortar stores... stores like HMV would let you order any Criterion title, and you could just pick them up as each one came in. Good locations didn't even make you pay a deposit
I'm glad that Unobstructed View is filling a niche for Canadians, but it sounds like they're either really struggling or, like you said, they're making a tiny profit on shipping fees.

I have not yet patronized that shop, but I think a dedicated thread in the Store forum would be useful.

What's the deal with John Woo's The Killer and Hard Boiled. Are the rumors not true that Criterion has the license to these films? Imagine The Killer and Hard Boiled in 4K!? Guess I got to keep dreaming.
