I've been meaning forever to switch my cases,
who do I contact at criterion about getting new cases? Criterion now offers replacement plastic cases for their early Blu-ray titles that came in Digipaks. To order replacement cases you can send a PayPal payment to [email protected] with your address. According to Criterion the cases are $5 each (including shipping) for domestic orders (it's been reported that Criterion is no longer sending international.) If you order more than two cases in an order, each case after the initial two are $2.50 each (for three cases the cost would be $12.50 if ordered domestically.) For more information contact [email protected]." I ordered a replacement case for Chungking Express and I received it in about a week. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
thanks for the reminder, I ordered 9 this morning, and got reply that my order had shipped within 3 hours!

If I order cases for The Leopard and Che, will they send a slim 2-disc case or 2 single disc cases? If it's the latter, I won't bother for Che since that is how they come already. I'm just trying for a uniform look on my cases.
The Third Man The Last Emperor The Man Who Fell To Earth Bottle Rocket Chungking Express The 400 Blows The Last Metro El Norte Last Year At Marienbad Edit: NM I missied NoirFan's & cgray's reply before :) |

I recommend everyone to watch this on Netflix Instant, if they have the ability to do so. It's a powerful and unsettling film with some nerve-searing imagery, but might just be worth the one shot for a few particularly shiver-worthy scenes.

Does anyone know why Black Narcissus isn't rentable as a Blu-ray on Netflix? Thanks.

The first Blu-ray encode of SEVEN SAMURAI arrived today. Our restoration team has really outdone themselves: This snapshot (yes, taken on a camera phone) shows the file, made from our restored ...HD master, that will eventually be replicated, packaged and sold on Blu-ray this October. -Via a post on Criterion's Facebook Not sure yet if I'll double dip on the loaded 3 disc. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
....eh....pic from a phone doesn't do it justice. I'm sure it's nice but the limitations of the phone really don't show off much and in fact would make you believe it's not a good HD master.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion is great. My Red Shoes Blu-ray case and cover from the BN sale came crushed. Disc and booklet were fine. They sent me another one for free! I was willing to pay shipping or more too!

Man...I wonder what it's like to work for them? I just want to tour their offices or whatever. They're so awesome.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Soderbergh's Solaris is coming, presumably on Blu-ray.

Boy, that was quick. Disappointing, as I was hoping a Soderbergh Solaris Blu-ray would also mean a Tarkovsky Solaris Blu-ray.

Has there been any word about Following? I thought I heard that Criterion was releasing it, but haven't heard anything in awhile...
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
They talked about it openly in some of the press following the IFC deal, so I think its a safe bet, though I don't think there is a time frame yet. Same with Y Tu Mama Tambien, which I'm looking forward to.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yeah, not sure why the assumption would be for Soderbergh's Solaris when Criterion already has Tarkovsky's in the library...either way, this seems to be a great sign that Tarkovsky's version is coming to Blu-ray, so still good news!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
How about a double-disc Blu-ray set of both the Tarkovsky film and the Soderbergh film?
 |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I thought everyone hated the Soderbergh version? I haven't seen it.

If you can set aside those preconceptions, it's actually a very good film. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Hmm, maybe I'll have to take a look.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I reviewed Solaris for AICN and spent more time describing how half the audience walked out throughout the movie. I've never seen that before, especially at a screening.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I prefer the Tarkovsky, but also think Soderbergh's version is very good.

(yes, yes the original was a milestone in many ways, but my personal experience is that the original is sleep inducing and just not as enjoyable) |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I've yet to see anyone of them but I've always wanted to see the original. Didn't know that Soderbergh did the remake.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
IMHO, the Soderbergh version more than holds its own, (and I'm not a big Clooney fan, either).
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I love the original film and would have been disappointed if Criterion released the remake first.

Looks like Breathless will be a Digipak
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1244920_n.jpg |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm not a fan of digipaks, but the Breathless DVD had very nice packaging, which I'm assuming a digipak was necessary to replicate.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm game for whatever. At least that thing is a lot classier than the previous CC digipacks...if that's what it actually is.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I like it. I don't think it's a digipack. I think it's a clear case inside a sleeve. Like Kino's Wong Kar Wai releases.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
that looks slick
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
God damnit, again with the digipaks. I understand the logic behind doing it for a multi-disc release, but now they're going back to them with single-discs? Make up your mind already Criterion.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yea that certainly looks like a sleeve on it. Pretty nice looking.
