Inside Llewyn Davis, The Graduate, The Fisher King. Had that $10 promo in my account still. Can't do much better than the Coen Bros, Mike Nichols and Terry Gilliam. Not bad for $49.97 shipped.

I am slightly confused re the Graduate's release. Was the Criterion edition in the works before Nichols died? as the specs mention "The color timing was done by referencing a high-definition master supervised by Grover Crisp at Sony Pictures and approved by director Mike Nichols" Does that mean the color timing was approved before he died on an older HD master (as they restored the original negative) Same w the audio, as it mentions he supervised the 5.1 remix. I take it he approved the original remix that was done i think in 2006?

The discs were pressed before he died, so yeah, pretty sure he was around to approve the new master.

The discs have been pressed since November 2014?I think the wording on the notes is just confusing. I read it as meaning that Grover Crisp color timed this new transfer and he based his work on an older hd master that had been approved by Mike Nichols. It's either that or Criterion has been sitting on this new transfer for a long time, which isn't totally out of the question.

It's my understanding that Grover Crisp has been actively working to remaster as much of Sony's catalog as possible, regardless of whether or not the studio has immediate plans to release those titles on disc.

I think it more likely that Sony sat on the transfer and only recently decided to license it to Criterion - or that contract negotiations between Sony and Criterion took a long time to work out.

edit to add: going by the dvdbeaver screencaps, the color timing on the new Criterion BD seems to match the 40th Anniversary dvd the closest, so my guess is that is the "hd master" that Criterion based the color timing on.
edit to add #2: I did some more digging and found this post by Ron Epstein over at HTF in regards to the 40th anniversary dvd.
I think it's safe to say that this was the "Mike Nichols approved" master that was referenced when Criterion color timed this new 4k master.
This was a restoration by Sony Pictures a couple of years ago. Sony has the TV rights, MGM has home video rights, and it is owned by Canal Plus. But, all agreed Sony would restore it. Mike Nichols attended an early screening of the film to get the color and densities correct and it is indeed a 'dark' film as some of the comments have noted. In a first meeting with Nichols, he asked if Sony knew how dark it should look, that it was a very dark film, and he meant literally as well as figuratively. It is an exceptionally well-photographed film that needed no embellishing from Sony. It is my understanding that Nichols was very gracious about the quality of the final work when Sony had the premiere at the Academy a year or so ago. Once completed, Sony then oversaw the new HD transfer of the film following the same guidelines from the director on the look once again. Sony also compared framing on the earlier transfers of the film to make sure they were getting the most out of the image, not cutting off as much as on the previous transfers.

I've heard rumblings around the web that Criterion is working on a Linklater Before Trilogy set for this year

Linklater rumbled about that as well when doing press for Before Midnight. I hope we see this within the next year or two. And Ethan Hawke mentions it as well at 2:10.

While I liked the whole trilogy, I hope Criterion releases Before Sunrise separately - as that's the best film and has the most replay value for me.

Also, I can't help but think there will be some monkey business related to the aspect ratio. Perhaps there will be multiple ratios like Criterion's On the Waterfront.
