Jesus Christ man, you expect me to do research before I spend money at Barnes and Noble's Criterion sale? You expect me to read and actually pay attention to things? Come on, man! I'm a millennial, you think I have the attention span for that ?

Do you have any reason to think this is happening? Or are you just hoping? If so, that's kind of random. As far as I know, Mill Creek has the rights.

Maybe it is the Harold Lloyd film you read about?

So did Hidden Fortress go out of print? I still had a pending order from when it was $16.99 on Amazon a month ago and I just got an email asking to approve or cancel the order, because it's still out of stock. There's a couple of 3rd market sellers selling theirs for $200.

It could be that they are just phasing out the multi-format combo version and splitting it back to separate blu-ray & dvd.

That is what is happening. It's the reason why titles like the Zatoichi box set are OOP. It will be re-released soon.

I could have done without the DVD's of the Zatoichi set. I guess I'll give them to my 3 year old twins to watch. They like DVD's.

But then Hidden Fortress was never a multi-format combo release, was it? I mean, I have the blu, and it didn't come with a dvd.

I was about to second your statement, but I went and checked my shelf and it is a dual format DVD/Blu.

Might have to get The Player. Have the old New Line DVD in a snapper, but wouldn't mind an upgrade.

So that's Five Easy Pieces and now Easy Rider from the BBS boxset. I hope they don't ignore The Last Picture Show - as that's the only film in that boxset that I want.

I'll probably jump on The Player at some point.

The Player will be mine during the next big CC sale. Have no interest in the others.

In for:

The Player
In A Lonely Place

maybe:
Wenders Road Trilogy

super stoked for In A Lonely Place. Always happy to see more Nick Ray on Blu. It might be his masterpiece. Its neck and neck with Johnny Guitar for me. Plus for me its the best performance of Bogart's career.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I should've sold my Player blu-ray before this Criterion was announced - it was out of print and going for almost $100.

In A Lonely Place is fantastic - probably Bogart's best performance (maybe after ToSM).

I'd probably split the difference myself. I'd say In A Lonely Place is Bogie's best performance while The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is his best film. Or, maybe just the best film period.

I'm sort of surprised at the lack of upgrades so far for 2016. Only one in the first five months.
