Yeah, I would also guess Brazil based on that message.

I owned the letterbox DVD and replaced it with the anamorphic DVD when it came out. I'll definitely pick up the Blu-ray, but probably not right away.

Count me in as someone who'd drool over Brazil. I have the original non-anamorphic edition and this would be awesome. I just can't believe it's taken so long.

I'm sure Criterion's version of Brazil will be great. But the Universal BD isn't to be shrugged off as it is the original US theatrical version (which BTW, is also a "director's cut"), and in some ways is superior to Gilliam's later directors cut, IMO.

Criterion's DVD boxset features both versions, so I'm expecting the blu-ray to feature them as well.

The Criterion box set did not include the original theatrical version, but a revised directors cut and the butchered "love conquers all" version.

My bad, I thought there were only 2 versions of the film.

technically three - the US version, the international 'DC' and the 'Love Conqueror's All' version.

Dug around on Wikipedia, they're respectively 132 , 142 and 94 minutes?

Here's a hint: The Blu-ray upgrade is one of our most anticipated... It will make a lot of people very happy.
I'm hoping for Andrei Rublev, Brazil, or Picnic at Hanging Rock. Particularly Andrei Rublev.
That's definitely Brazil. I will gladly upgrade that one.

Gilliam said a few years back that he made new features for the BD. I'd like to see what those were.

Would be nice to see an upgrade of M. Hulot's Holiday.

I'm also holding out hope for Y Tu Mama Tambien.

so is it a pipedream that Criterion would ever do a remaster of 'Robocop' - has that ship sailed?

MGM would have to give it up, and that's not likely since they have a remake in the works as an opportunity to release it again.

Not as long as MGM has it. Gotta make all that hard cash from tying it into the remake, right?

Honestly, pick up the Criterion disc and the Blu-ray and call it a day. The Robocop extras were a slide-based visual essay, storyboard comparisons, and a commentary. It's VERY laserdiscy (as it's a copy of the laserdisc, transfer and all). There's no documentary or deleted scenes.

I'm actually staring at the disc right now and it's hilarious that back in 1998 one of Criterion's special features is "Optimal image quality: RSDL dual layer edition".

perish the thought that MGM could do what Lionsgate did and get Verhoeven actually involved in doing a new transfer.

I think I own every video incarnation of 'Robocop' - laserdisc, yes: the Criterion DVD (one step ahead of you Rob ), the Robocop trilogy ediition. Have yet to open or view the Fox bluray which I've read is a sucky transfer.

ho hum... oh well. (maybe MGM/Fox will surprise me - but I ain't holding my breath)

I miss the days where they announced in the morning and sometimes on a Friday before if the 15th happened to be on a weekend.

Holy fuck! Brazil!

And they managed to cram all the DVD extras on there (with 2 discs)! Happiness! I've never been so happy to buy a film a third time from the same company, lol.

Nice cover on Brazil. I wish I liked the movie as much.
