re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Anybody know what the packaging of the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set is going to look like? Individual release cases in a cardboard slipcover or something else?

Isn't the above picture one of the DVD set?

If you order directly from Criterion how do they ship? UPS, FedEx or USPS.
Do they ship a little early to get pre-orders on release day or ship on release day or later? |

I guess they're happy with the preorders for Malick's Days of Heaven. :) |

Lion... Line... -ohbfrank- okay, whatever... LAME (The visual cue, not the movie) |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Oh, TRL is good news! Just need Badlands now to have 'em all on Blu.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Great news... I'd like to see some puzzle pieces for the next visual tease. (The Game)

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
That will look beautiful in Blu! The movie, not the Thin Red Lion.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I wonder what the likelihood of the legendary deleted footage being included is. Either way, great news.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Beyond deleted footage, there's a near 4-hour director's cut that exists. If anyone can release that, it's Criterion.

I always liked how this movie came out the same year as Saving Private Ryan, while all my friends were raving about that movie, I was like you should see The Thin Red Lion it's way better, man. :) |

I'd love to have as much as possible on this film. |

I'd love to have as much as possible on this film. But what happened with Thin Red Line was that Terrance Malick made a 5 1/2-hour film for Sony and Sony sold the film during its production to Fox and when Fox decided to distribute it they said 'Hey! We're not releasing a 5 1/2-hour film on Christmas Day. We're cutting three hours out of the film and we're gonna excavate all the scenes that do not have movie stars in them. We're gonna splice together all the scenes that do have movie stars.' Originally the A-list guys were cameos, like John Travolta, Woody Harrelson, Clooney, Cusack. They were kinda like cameos. Not only did they cut out my role, which, you know, whatever, I had like four good scenes and I certainly wasn't a lead by any means. But they cut out most of the leads, including THE lead [Adrien Brody] and they just extracted their entire scenes, storylines, and characters from the film, including the main character who doesn't appear in the final cut." |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion should work with Malick to create a new cut of the film. I hope that's what they will do.

I think it will be EXTREMELY disappointing if they do not work with him to create an ultimate director's cut of this film, no matter how long it ends up being. It absolutely needs to happen. That's really the only reason for Criterion to even bother releasing it, honestly: so they can do it the right way.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yes, although it would be nice to get some extra features, if they don't release a director's cut, it will be a very disappointing missed opportunity.

The Leopard on BD = wow.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Red Desert! Awesome!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Mystery Train is my favorite Jarmusch, so I'm definitely in for that, though the extras look a bit thin. Still, I wasn't even expecting a HD release. Big thumbs-up on The Leopard and Red Desert. Hopefully The Red Shoes will be coming in July.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I don't know what Mystery Train is, but I just read the name "Joe Strummer" and I'm in.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Holy.
Criterion's been hitting 'em out of the park more often than not with their Blu-Ray announcements. Too bad they're almost $40 CAD each. Brutal pricing in Canada. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Very nice Criterion. 2010 is shaping up nicely.
Also, for those that don't read the DVD Talk forum anymore (like me), Kiarostami's Close Up was announced along with Everlasting Moments and Night Train to Munich. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion just added "Close-Up" and "Everlasting Moments" to the blu-ray list now. That's FIVE blu-rays for June!
