"soon" in Criterion-speak is very vague.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm starting to think the Thin Red Line cover-art posted over a week ago on that site may not be final. Otherwise, it would have been posted on Criterion's site by now.

As for Marienbad, I asked John Mulvony about this, and he said it is NOT going out of print because their deal is not through Studio Canal but Rialto Pictures.

I need that Criterion sale in the worst way right now.

DVD Beaver on Black Narcissus - my first Blu-ray double-dip! Nice to see 26 minutes of new extras.

Great, one of my all-time favorites. The B & W urban cinematography should look fantastic in HD.

They have a ton of classics that I would love to see Criterion get their hands on... Some Like It Hot, The Killing, Killer's Kiss, Paths of Glory, The Apartment, Jean de Florette, Manon of the Spring, and Blue Velvet -- just to name a few.

A Criterion BD of Blue Velvet would make me change my pants.

Amazing detail. I really enjoyed watching it when I first saw the film. I'm looking forward to picking this up. |

Broadcast News
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I like Broadcast News quite a bit. I think it succeeded where countless films about news reporters and the media have failed. I hope it gets released on Blu-ray.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's a wonderful film that I've been wanting to pick up for a while now. Glad to hear it.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Will definitely pick up Broadcast News if it's Blu-ray. My favorite line of the movie is "...I would give anything if you were two people, so that I could call up the one who's my friend and tell her about the one that I like *so much*! "

"It must be nice to always believe you know better, to always think you're the smartest person in the room." "No. It's awful." |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Broadcast News would be a great candidate. The DVD is terrible, with a crappy non-anamorphic transfer.
Speaking of terrible DVDs, is there any chance Criterion could get a license for Quiz Show? |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
How about Fearless (Peter Weir)? That DVD's over 10 years old and is P&S.
I figured with Bridges Oscar win this year, maybe that'll give WB reason to finally re-release on DVD and do it up in BD as well... or at least license it out to Criterion. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Um, how about Badlands? Days of Heaven is already on Criterion Blu and DVD, with The Thin Red Line on the way.

I always said I'd pick up Malick's first 3 films on Blu-Ray if/when they come out... and to have 1 already on Criterion (Days of Heaven) and another (TTRL) on the way is pretty amazing as it stands. Throw a Criterion Badlands into the mix and I'd be blown away. |

^Nice! A thousand times better than that previous cover someone posted. Did they have a confirmed release date, because Amazon still shows nothing?

I can't stop looking at it. Really looking forward to this release...

That is indeed a very beautiful cover. Really makes me want to see it!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Not seen The Thin Red Line but have been wanting to for a while now. I'm thinking this new BD might be the best way to watch it for the first time (baring going to the cinema).
