re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I didn't hate the cardboard cases like a lot of people, but I absolutely love the clear cases they're using now. :) If I could buy them in bulk (preferably in thinner versions), I'd replace ALL of the ugly blue cases I have. I haven't bothered to see if anyone sells them, though.
edit: looks like the cases come from Scanavo (model number CBR 101), but they're not listed on the Scanavo.com website, which makes me assume that they are custom made solely for Criterion. I'm tempted to contact Scanavo and see if they'd produce a "normal thickness" version... but I wouldn't be able to afford a large enough order to make it cost-effective. I can dream, though... |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Well shit...I've only been putting off buying Grand Illusion since, well, the beginning. ;)
I was really hoping for an updated Alphaville also, good to know that R2 version is out there though. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I guess I don't understand how Criterion can lose the rights to these films.
I mean, is there really that much revenue/profit left in some of these titles for the rights holder to terminate Criterion's license?? |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
^ it has something to do Studio Canal who owns the rights thinking that Lionsgate will do better than Criterion - HAH, fools!

Got my Third Man replacement case today. It was run over by a car from the tire print and the case and insert are completely destroyed. Ordered another replacement so I'm up to $10 so far on just a case for the movie. Sigh.
At least Pierott and Seventh Seal arrived from Amazon with no damage so some good news at least. I still want to pick up Bottlerocket, but I am waiting till I find it in the plastic case. |

Not really their fault. Thing was in a padded mailer and wrapped inside that with bubble wrap. It took complete incompetence by the post office to destroy it. I didn't even ask for a free replacement. I just sent them another $5.

m Awesome to finally have Walkabout on the way, and I'm extremely excited about Stagecoach as well. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I guess I'll be the first to post who is excited about Brakhage! Love the cover art.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Not really feeling it on the Walkabout cover art, but nor do I really care. Can't wait to see it!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm glad we're getting M so soon after the MoC release. I was bummed that it was Region B.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm in for M and for Walkabout. If Brakhage drops to $20 I might consider that, too.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm already selling my DVDs of M and Walkabout in preparation, but Stagecoach is a must have as well. Can't wait.
Just wondering how Criterion got the rights to even release Stagecoach. Have they released a Warner property since the laserdisc days? |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Stagecoach
I bet M is going to be sweet too. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'll definitely get Brakhage, maybe Walkabout.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Awesome news!
This is also the first announcement where all the titles announced are also on Blu-ray. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Glad Stagecoach is coming at last and on blu to boot. May hang onto the two disc Warner edition just for the American Masters doc that's on disc two since I didn't think it would be ported over to the Criterion disc.

Also much like a previous poster mentioned: How did CC get this from WB?! Does WB not see a valuable release to cinephiles? I'm fucking ecstatic more so that CC has this!!! |
