re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
A solid month, though nothing that leaps out at me as an instant purchase (I really like the Polanski and Wong films, but I have a hard time getting excited about most upgrades.) I will admit that I knew nothing about The Forgiveness of Blood or the Gainsborough films before this, so I'll be sure to give those a rental.
I disliked Sunday Bloody Sunday, so that's the only one I definitely won't be picking up. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I was hopping SBS would be the one by Paul Greengrass.

I actually knew that. For some reason, I don't consider the laserdisc Criterion to be the same company as dvd Criterion even though they are.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Rosemarys Baby once it hits about $15ish. Criterion is sure lovin' Ruth Gordon this year.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Great to see Rosemary's Baby officially announced, and I'm really shocked but happy to see the original poster art being used. I haven't watched In the Mood for Love in years, but I just happened to watch 2046 recently so it has been on my mind.

Also, does anyone know of any other Criterions that use the original poster artwork? The only other ones I can think of are The Royal Tenenbaums, which used a modified version of the poster for the slipcover, and I believe the same with Life Aquatic. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'll pick up Rosemary's Baby for sure at some point. Maybe Sunday Bloody Sunday too.

So excited for the release of Rosemary's Baby!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
will take all those provided ITMFL has the correct colour scheme reinstated. But why only 4 releases? Last few months have only been 4-5 too. Slowing down?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Maybe getting people caught up on all the items that they missed with the flood of titles released in the past year? ;)
That or they are getting backed-up on deadlines with features on discs that were scheduled to be announced sooner but because of talents time restraints they have to push them back to a later date. So there might be a few months where the titles will be flowing like the salmon of Capistrano. |

Although, that, like the two you mentioned are unique situations given their releases. I was surprised that Chasing Amy was not the original poster art. I was almost certain it was, given that it looks like an afterthought. Although, it took Criterion a while to really hit their stride with cover art. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I was contemplating purchasing In the Mood for Love during this month's sale, but I thought this might be on the horizon and I have little time to watch movies these days. Glad to see that dragging my feet has been good.
I was trying to avoid purchasing DVDs from Criterion anymore, but I might go with Slacker as I can't imagine that's too high on the BD re-release for Criterion. Even if it was, I can't imagine much that would be revelatory. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
1. I'm a little bummed about the Rosemary's Baby supplements. Pretty light for a film that is one of my favorites. I've heard Robert Evan's thoughts on the film many times. I'm sure Polanski and Farrow will be interesting, but the interviews will probably by less than 20 minutes each. I would have really liked it to have an expert commentary.
2. Has anyone else noticed that the In the Mood For Love supplements are going to be very different on the Blu-ray? |

ROSEMARY'S BABY
- New high-definition digital restoration, approved by director Roman Polanski, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition - New interviews with Polanski, actor Mia Farrow, and producer Robert Evans - Komeda, Komeda, a feature-length documentary on the life and work of jazz musician and composer Krzysztof Komeda, who wrote the score for Rosemary’s Baby - 1997 radio interview with author Ira Levin from Leonard Lopate’s WNYC program New York and Company on the 1967 novel, the sequel, and the film - PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Ed Park and Levin’s afterword for the 2003 New American Library edition of his novel, in which he discusses its and the film’s origins ------------------------------ just give me a decent transfer and I'm hoping that's the case with Polanski onboard  |

99,501 likes for CC facebook. They'll probably hit 100k in the next week or so. Then the CC website might do their own 50% off, but hopefully they wait awhile until after the BN sale.

That one hardly counts. Its production is handled by the studio, who has pretty much just arranged for it to be part of the collection.

If not, Criterion can just be happy with the limited amount of copies they sell (like everything else non-mainstream). I certainly won't pay $30 for a Blu-ray in 2012. I happily enjoyed As Good as it Gets on Blu-ray without forking over $30+ to Twilight Time. |

Is Benjamin Button out of print? I'd like to grab that one before it gets nuts.

Has there been any developments on the possibility of a Godard's Weekend Criterion release? I haven't been following Criterion speculation lately so would appreciate the "scoop.". Thanks in advance.
Very excited about Rosemary's Baby; but I agree the supplements seem weak. |

Not trying to hijack this thread...
But... I noticed a few dozen pages ago that there was a couple members discussing/wanting to sell their copies of 'The Man who Fell to Earth', 'The Third Man' and 'Pierrot Le Fou' if you still are or clearly knows of someone who does please PM/Email me. Thanks, Charlie Howard |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Unless that's changed in the last couple of weeks, Pierrot Le Fou could still be found for a reasonable price.
