Why, though, is maintenance of DVD releases seemingly off of your "looming disaster" radar while cutting internet streaming deals (also done to generate additional revenue) is not?

Look at the weekly numbers. DVD is bucking the trend and growing over Q1/Q2 last year. Blu-ray, well, it's no wonder the major are afraid to release catalog titles and have to pack a DVD and Digital Copy/UV Copy in with nearly every new Blu-ray release.

They released on DVD for a decade+. Why would they just stop now? Its still the "highest quality" for people to cheap to spend $50 on a Blu-ray player. Streaming, however, slap in the face of what they do best. But if they need money...why not!

Since "Criterion is all about the highest quality possibly in Video and Audio".

And yet, streaming is higher quality than DVD and you still don't have to spend $50 on a Blu-ray player for it. Somehow, though, it's a "slap in the face".

Also, much like sex, when it is bad you are left unfulfilled and 40 dollars poorer.

Same answer dino88 gave on the previous page: Nothing official, most likely July as usual.

I posted some amongst all the arguing a few pages back, but I'll go with:

La Promesse
Rosetta
Lonesome
Wenders set
2x upgrades
Something Eclipse

All hipster nonsense, of course.

Of course, I'm being optimistic and hoping that this month will make up for the blandness of the last two or three months.

That's what I thought too. I always thought hipsters were basically modern day beatniks. They both act douchey and hang around coffee houses.

They've been talking about Y Tu Mama Tambien (and Following) for almost three years now. Here's hoping they both finally show up soon.

More Kurosawa on BD would also always be a good thing.

Hoping for Kurosawa. I've been hoping for Madadayo for..oh around two years now? It's the only one not released separately from the AK100 set, I mean come on!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Now that's a great month! A bit skewed toward modern releases, but three of the five titles have never been released on DVD in R1 - and the Fejos set more than makes up all the new stuff.

I've been dying to see Lonesome since I read a Jonathan Rosenbaum rave about it several years ago, but it has never been released on home video anywhere in the world. La Promesse is my second or third favorite film, and it'll be great to have it and Rosetta in HD.

I heard great things about Weekend when it ran in theaters last year, so I'll definitely give that and Quadrophenia a rental.

Lonesome and the Dardennes alone make this their best announcement in at least a year, imo. And it's good to see some good cover art from them again.
