It would have been better if they just blu-rayed Happiness since it has had crappy DVD versions.

criterion looks sharper based on screenshots than the SC, but SC seems to have the right color scheme.

It's due to their relationship with IFC that they're releasing it. Personally, I agree that I'd rather they release Happiness if they were to release a Solondz film (and Welcome To The Dollhouse, while their at it). It's especially weird since Wartime is it's sequel...

Not one of Solondz films has a decent release, so this will be a revelation, I'm sure.

awesomeness, I will be all over this. It would make a great pairing with a re-release of The Killers set. Or Night in the City or Thieves Highway :)

I'm very happy about the Solondz release. Would I have preferred another title? Hell, I want a CC box set of ALL his films, but I'll take what they give me. Maybe this can start a relationship with him and lead to more of his titles getting the proper treatment.

I must have missed the White Material announcement, I'm a huge Claire Denis fan, so this is welcomed news, and soon too.

I'd kill for A Woman Under the Influence, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie or some Fassbinder on blu-ray....or a Badlands announcement. I don't buy very many films anymore...but these things could get me excited for home media again.

Kiss Me Deadly, outstanding! I'm extremely underwhelmed though with the rest of June's titles, but that's OK cause May is killer (buying them all but Sweetie).

From Criterion's Facebook page:

A poster on the Criterion Forum is certain that this is Satyajit Ray's Jalsaghar:

I scanned through the Angel DVD. I didn't hunt down that very frame, but there's a piece of architecture that EXACTLY matches. If it's not Jalsaghar, it's something filmed at the same estate.
Nice to see that Criterion's first Ray film won't be one from one of the four AE sets.

I do appreciate the effort they put into it:

http://www.criterion.com/films/27656-c-h-u-d - Spine #573

http://criterion-production.s3.amazo...BD_348x490.jpg

SYNOPSIS: A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. With its surprisingly gritty depiction of urban life, noirish cinematography by Peter Stein (Ernest Goes to Jail), and groundbreaking makeup effects, this Reagan-era chiller remains one of the truest depictions of Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers yet put on film.

Disc Features

DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION

-New digital restoration of the unrated director’s cut, including “excessively violent” shots cut from the theatrical release to avoid an X rating, with DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition
-Optional soundtrack dubbed in the guttural language of C.H.U.D. (DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray edition)
-Two audio commentaries, one by director Douglas Cheek and one by filmmaker Pedro Costa
-Visual essay by Tag Gallagher
-Morning in Underground America, a feature documentary about the making of C.H.U.D.
-The Humanoid and the Professor, a conversation with Kent Jones
-Film-to-storyboard comparison
-Downloadable MP3 of the 1987 radio dramatization, featuring Eric Bogosian
-Theatrical and teaser trailers
-PLUS: A booklet featuring new essays by film writers J. Hoberman and Dennis Lim, a reprint of the manifesto Cheek issued on the film’s release, and sheet music for the original score

The Pedro Costa commentary sounds especially great. ;)
