Definitely grab Planes, Trains and Autos by Thanksgiving. It's a most wanted for me. I only have the first release which was pretty crappy but I watch this every Thanksgiving after everyone has left.

Naked Gun I will hold off until all three are released since I own the trilogy set. Airplane is an easy one as long as it is the "Don't Call Me Shirley" Edition and Planes, Trains and Automobiles will be given strong consideration once it drops to $10.

It's been nearly 4 months since it's theatrical release and not a word on the DVD/BD. What's going on with "Water for Elephants"? Can't wait to get this on BD.

I do the same, one of the only traditions I carried over from my youth, can't wait to grab it on blu.

Apologies if this was mentioned before, but I was just very pleasantly surprised to see that amazon has an October 11, 2011 release date for The Bad Seed (1956).

This and Private Parts are the two movies I want the most from Paramount. Because they never had anamorphic dvd releases.

Now if only WB would release The Pajama Game - the colors in that would look unreal on Blu-ray!

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

The final four months of this year are bringing a catalog onslaught, everything from Island of Lost Souls to My Fair Lady to Star Wars. An exciting time for film fans!

EDIT: Hmmm...just saw the following posted on HTF by Robert Harris. It sounds like he may not be in the loop on the My Fair Lady release.

I hope this will be a good quality transfer and not from an old DVD master, which would be pretty dated by today's technology standards:

"This is interesting news. I last had contact with techs from CBS/Viacom a couple of years ago, at which time I made them aware that the elements produced in 1994, were in several ways not ready for Blu-ray consumption.

We were a bit ahead of the game 17 years ago, but were still constrained by both asset and early digital anomalies.

These need to be corrected for the film to be in absolute top shape for Blu-ray image and un-compressed audio.

RAH"

A bit surprised to see Elite moving into Blu-ray. I thought they were defunct - most of their catalog is out of print. It would be great to get their Millenium Edition of Night of the Living Dead in HD.

And you can buy both for the low, low price of $80 (shipping not included).

Like 'The Egyptian', Twilight Time has licensed some Columbia titles from Sony for limited pressings (3000 each). Great for people that are only interested in a couple/few films or have the budget to withstand buying films at those prices. Not so good for people that might want many titles or blind buy.

Seems kind of late. Surprised they are just getting released now in the States.

Splurged on the HK BD Boxset a while ago.

I believe those are Sony titles. So are they from Sony at a normal price, or are they ultra-limited and expensive Twilight Time releases?

Beautiful Girls is listed for a UK release on BD. Anyone know if Optimum region locks their releases? This is WAY up high on my list of wants and I thought we might not get it. I'd take it from anywhere then, so I guess I can gross my fingers that this one will be region free and, if there are any extras (for the life of me, I can't remember what's on the dvd), that they're not in PAL. Can I get lucky for once on a small title import??

I'm pretty sure all of the Optimum discs I've imported have been region B.

Thanks...figures. This is one of those catalog titles I actually think about all the time. I really hope this release means it will get released elsewhere soon, maybe even here, but anywhere that it isn't locked, I'll pay whatever to import it.

I don't see how you could have forgotten the awesome Miramax disc, which I happen to have right here. "Special features include: Dolby Surround, Chapter Search." -ohbfrank-
