If the release is anything like The Misfits, expect it to go OOP on 9/20. I'd grab this one fast while it's out there.

There's also a surprise appearance of the first season of Archer on Blu-ray for 9/13 too. Guess someone at Fox/MGM is forgetting to send out press releases or something?

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

This fall, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is planning to release the horror/comedy Attack the Block on Blu-ray. The feature-film debut from Joe Cornish (co-writer of both TV's The Adam and Joe Show and Steven Spielberg's upcoming The Adventures of Tintin) focuses on a London street gang that must save their apartment block from a horde of ravenous space aliens. Featuring an acclaimed electronica soundtrack by Steven Price & Basement Jaxx, Attack the Block stars Jodie Whittaker (Good), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), and newcomer John Boyega as Moses, the gang's troubled leader-turned-reluctant hero.

While Sony has not confirmed the Blu-ray's complete technical specifications, it will present the film in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1. The disc also contains a number of special features, including:

"Junior" commentary with writer/director Joe Cornish and actors John Boyega, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Simon Howard, and Leeon Jones
"Senior" commentary with Cornish and actors Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway, and Nick Frost
"Executive Producer" commentary with Cornish and executive producer Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz)
Behind the Block featurette
Creature Feature featurette
Meet the Gang featurette
Unfilmed Action featurette
That's a Rap featurette

Attack the Block is expected to street on October 25th.
:)

Nice, I had been waiting for it to hit $9.99 but ordered one from B & N for around $12 once I heard it was going OOP. It's still in stock at many e-tailers, but that will no doubt change over the next month or so.

I need to know about Kung Fu Panda 2, everywhere I have read says it is scheduled to be released on October 11, but videoeta.com has it slated for a November release, it less than four weeks for a 10/11 release date with nothing confirmed, can someone tell me when Paramount is going to make a official press release with official release date

islandclaws 09-17-11 05:37 PM

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Considering the short notice Paramount gave for TF3 (even though the first release is barebones), I'd say they could still get something together for an Oct. release. However, I'd guess Nov. seems more likely.

10/11 - THE EXORCIST (non digi-book) - not sure if this will have both discs. amazon and blu-ray.com both list it as being 2-discs but who knows...seems the digi-book version is out of print so i need a confirmation soon so i can pick it up if need be.

10/11 - THE COMANCHEROS (non digi-book)

And of course I would notice the post about the non digi-book version of The Exorcist a day after ordering the digi-book. -rolleyes-

thats pretty fast, but i am sure that record is held by the original dvd pressing of Frank Oz's Little Shop of Horrors back in the 90s recalled and discontinued the day after it was released due to Frank oz beeing pissed off that the Alternate ending was included on the disc.

Wasn't it David Geffen who was upset?

Ed Wood. History of Beavis and Butthead. I can name more titles that were discontinued the day of, or before, DVD release. Not a new thing.

Yea, but those had much better reasoning than The Misfits, which seems to have no reasoning whatsoever.

Mission: Impossible Gift Set Collection - December 6

I have a bad feeling this is going to be a simple repackaging of the old discs. I guess we'll never get lossless audio for the first 3 films.

And when they get lossless audio is when I'll actually purchase them. But can hope.

I think the biggest issue is that the second one badly needs a new transfer.

Yes I think it was Geffen. What I remember was that he was upset that the alt ending was on the disc in an unfinished state (black and white), and he was promising a re-release in theaters with that ending or some other "proper venue".

That was how many years ago now? And still no other release of it? Glad I have the OOP disc! (Although I find the alt ending really depressing and rarely watch it. Its almost like a snuff film. lol)

Final Destination 5 on December 27 but NO MENTION OF A 3D release. The 3D on that one was great and I was really looking forward to it - maybe it'll be announced later as a retailer exclusive. Warner and other studios are trying their hardest to keep 3D blu-ray a clusterfuck of confusion and frustration.

I'm thinking and hoping it will be a Best Buy exclusive since Warner's is distributing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows 1 and 2 (3D) that way.

I might finally buy Good Morning, Vietnam after all of these years. Almost everytime I see that sucker on the television, I stop for at least 5-10 minutes to enjoy it.

This past Friday we showed off package art for DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc versions of Justified - The Complete 2nd Season. Today was the official announcement day for this title by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and they've revealed that these will be in stores beginning January 3rd (a date which you can now see at the Amazon.com pre-order listings, using the button link below). Each 3-disc set will run 546 minutes and includes special features such as "On the Set of Justified", the featurette "Clans, Feuds & Apple Pie", Outtakes, and the Blu-ray exclusive "Talking Shop: Roundtable Discussion". As previously reported, the pricing is $49.95 SRP for the Blu-ray, and $39.95 SRP for the DVD version...but you can pre-order either one at a discount from Amazon!

Going back to Little Shop of Horrors: yesterday at the Museum of the Moving Image, Frank Oz did a panel there as part of the muppet exhibit they're running through the end of the year. He mentioned that he just got word from Warner Bros that Little Shop of Horrors is planned for next year in time for Halloween - 2-disc DVD/blu-ray which will include the original ending.
