I'm glad to hear that Universal has stepped up their game here. Definitely a Blu-ray to buy day one! Can't wait to add this to my collection.

Re: Jaws - 8/14/12

At first I was a little disappointed that the mono track isn't lossless. But according to DVD Beaver, it's DTS at 768kbps. That's probably about the same bitrate it would be if it was DTS-HD MA (mono CDs typically compress to FLAC at under 600kbps). I suppose they did it that way so that those with standard DTS only can listen to it.

Most Blu-Ray players have a "downmix" setting that converts DTS-HD to DTS and TrueHD to Dolby (at least mine does).
That's assuming that people make proper use of their setup menus, of course.

you could also down convert your receiver to playback to two-channel stereo too.

This Blu-ray looks like it'll be one of the best of the year. Very, very cool.

I wonder if it's just coincidence that this is being released to coincide with Discovery Channel's "Shark Week".

Yep.

I really don't think there is any way the coinciding release dates are an accident, and I am glad. I will definitely be enjoying both.

Yeah I wondered why it was being released so late in the summer but the tie-in to shark week seems as good an explanation as any.

Yeah, it's been a ritual of mine to watch JAWS once a year around Independence Day...didn't happen this year because I wanted to wait for this Blu-ray.

The new Best Buy ad will leak probably by Wednesday, so we'll find out if the digibook is on sale. I think it will be, but I'm hoping for something closer to $22.99.

I watch it on the first warm spring-like day in winter, like late Feb or March. Let's me know summer is right on the way.
