Boy, the extras look somewhat thin on this...after Casino Royale's double dip, I'm wondering if I should hold off until at least the next Bond theatrical release to see if it happens again here. Of course, it looks like FOX is putting out this title, and SONY handled Casino on Blu-ray, so I'm not sure the lack of extras necessarily mean a Double Dip this time around.

Yeah, I wouldn't count on it.

Meanwhile, does anyone know anything about multiple cuts for this one? After the Casino Royale situation, I don't want to buy a domestic release of Quantum of Solace and then find out there's an uncut version in another territory.

Hm..you're right. What's with the studios changing hands? I thought Casino Royale on was Sony 100% (for DVD/BD releases atleast)?

Regardles - I'm in. I liked this more then Royale.

While I liked Quantum, I'm going to wait on this. Fox/MGM has a history of double-dips on the Bond films and those extras look skimpy. If there's not a special edition released when the next Bond film comes out theatrically, there will at least be promotional pricing on this one and possibly movie cash, so I can wait until then.

There goes hoping for a two-pack bundle. I'll probably pick up QOS when it gets cheap. Same goes for the double dip of CR.

I'll wait for the eventual collectors edition that comes out a month before the next Bond movie.

Sony only had theatrical distribution rights to this film.

Is this going to be the same for the next Bond as well? Why was Royale "special" (I really don't know).

I believe that Casino Royale had something to do with the MGM home video distribution deal that Sony was working on. Either way, Sony had full rights to CR, theatrical rights only for QoS, and that's the end of their involvement with Bond. It's all MGM/Fox now.

I saw this twice in theaters and enjoyed it more the second time around. I think i'll like it more watching it back to back with Casino Royale.

What a mess. I'm just curious, as it stands today will Sony indefinitely retain all distribution rights for Casino Royale or will MGM/Fox ever acquire the home video distribution rights for that title?

Do you think Best Buy will have an exclusive steelbook version to go with the collection?

Re: Quantum of Solace - 3/24/09

So any reason why Fox/MGM can't offer a Steelbook with this one? I also wonder if the U.S is not getting the other Bonds in March now.

One advantage of being one of those people who don't really care all that much about extras is the savings on double dips. I've done my share of double dipping but it's almost always been for PQ and/or AQ. A lot of the first generation DVD's were non-anamorphic, Dolby surround, bare-bones discs. The only time I dd'd for extras was such a waste. On Saving Private Ryan, I upgraded the DD to the DTS version. Then I triple dipped for the SE box set. Well I've yet to watch any of the extras or the 2 documentaries that came with it, and the SE is DD and not DTS so I spent money and went backwards.

Why would you think the other Bonds won't arrive in March?

Fox distributes all MGM Bonds, except Casino Royale.

Sony was one of the production companies for Casino Royale. I bet they have the distribution rights to Casino Royale forever.

I don't think they've formally announced them yet, or have they? The U.S. releases are the only ones we realy have not heard about as being confirmed. I was figuring they would announce them all at the same time.

I'm hoping that the feature entitled "Director Marc Forster" is a commentary.

Not officially, but I believe the 2nd wave is supposed to be this:

Vol. 3: The World is Not Enough, Goldfinger, Moonraker
Vol. 4: Licence to Kill, The Man with the Golden Gun, Quantum of Solace

There was a thread on blu-ray.com containing this info, and verified by an insider.

I won't say 100%, but the above is probably what's coming here on March 24.

Since Fox is handling the BD release of QoS, I would say it'll get the Best Buy steelbook treatment along with the others.
