This is one film I will not mind having extra special features for.

They're just lucky I'm a Bond completest

No surprise there. I bought the current edition knowing full well that a new one would surface around the time the next 007 hits theaters. I'm ok with that. I really liked the movie.

I bought Casino Royale BD literally a week before the double dip was announced. I held off on Quantum of Solace knowing I was burned last time. The only problem now is whether I can hold off on this until the double dip is actually released.

Most likely if I find a good deal on the current BD I'll buy it.

Received mine from Columbia House today. Came in a regular Elite case and with the $5 off coupon. I forgot about that, so I'll be headed to Target again to grab another 007 BD.

Also, the BD accounted for 28% of total unit sales. That's a terrific number.

I'm holding off.

And Forster should step out of his ego for a second and put in the goddamn "Bond, James Bond." It would be one of the few things that would allow the audience to recognize they're actually watching a Bond movie.

Re: Quantum of Solace - 3/24/09

From what I recall, it's not due to his ego. Apparently the "Bond, James Bond" scene was setup for a third film, similar to the ending of Casino Royale. He felt he'd be forcing the next filmmaker to pick up where he left off. Instead, he cut the scene so whoever helmed the next feature could choose to either go from where Quantum Of Solace was intended to end or simply go in a different direction.

I just hope he takes the opportunity to not only include more special features but actually include a different cut of the movie with the extended coda intact.

In other words, more or less, the opposite of ego.

Yes. He was humbly letting others choose where they wanted to go with the character next.

This isn't the first Bond movie not to feature the line, so it didn't bother me. I was much more bothered with moving the gun barrel sequence to the end of the film than any other "Bondism" that is missing.

My bad. Still, it would be nice to see it. Also, if he could re-edit the action sequences so they make sense, that would be lovely.

The actual placement, though weird, didn't bother me (since Casino Royale messed with the placement as well but to a lesser extent) as much as the fact that it came across as an afterthought. It was as if they went "Shit. We forgot the gun barrel. Um, let's just tack it on at the end after the movie faded to black and was clearly over".

No biggie. Forster had talked about that some time before the film was released and it was quickly forgotten when all the mixed reviews started pouring out.

I'd love to see the sequence as well since he said it was only about two or three minutes long. I wonder what exactly was meant to happen that made him choose to cut it.

I'm cool with most of the action seqeences though I prefer how Martin Campbell handled the action sequences in Casino Royale.

That said, Forster really should re-edit the crowd shots during the post-credits foot chase. It felt as if the camera man was constantly dropping his camera. And I'd like them to tweak the boat chase. I still don't understand how Bond flipped that boat with the anchor.

Honestly, I think it would be better they release an extended cut with the gun barrel placed up front (just play it sans music if he wants to keep the low bass audio intro of the current cut), more exposition, less rapidfire edits, and the coda intact so we can have Bond say "Bond, James Bond".

Re: Quantum of Solace - 3/24/09

I thought the gun barrel at the end made sense in that it signaled the end of the phase where we discover Bond's origins and enter the next, more familiar phase. I tend to think we won't know how to view QoS until the next one comes out and see if QoS is really a bridge between Casino Royale and the next one (which I hope) or whether Bond just becomes another action hero. Based on the ending of QoS, I think he'll start to become cooler and a little more sophisticated like previous Bonds (which is how he was in much of Casino Royale).

Yeah, that is a good way to view it. I hope you're right.

I agree. That is how I interpreted the gun barrel being at the end. At the end of this film, his origin story has been completed & will now be transitioning to the Bond that we commonly know. The gun barrel was used to signify that.

The Bond that we commonly know, as the one who hooks up with every chick in the film? I mean, what was the deal with Quantum of Solace, he only had one girl in the entire movie.
