Basic Instinct

Still holds up since my last viewing (20+ years ago). I was pleasantly surprised with the qualities of the blu-ray presentation. Aside from its notoriety (the man in the canoe never looked so good :)) I had somewhat forgotten that the film really is a cleverly crafted mystery with excellent performances. Good stuff!

Too bad the Blu-ray only includes the director's cut with ill-advised comic book transitions that absolutely ruin the flow of the film.

Is it the US version? Or what country you get it from and where.

US Version, looks great and has an excellent English commentary from Richard Pena.

Yup. Walter Hill is a complete jackass for ruining such a perfect film. I hope it gets re-issued proper sometime, somewhere.

It's Complicated Not a bad movie. John Krysinski really has the best comedy parts

Ran. One of Kurosawa's best, and also one of the great works in cinema history period.

Whats weird is I'm a Kurosawa fanatic, & this is actually near the bottom of my favorite films of his. There are about a dozen I enjoy more. Its still phenomenal though.

Last few days:

Caddyshack
Alice in Wonderland
-better than I expected and definitely better than Wonka.
The Road-people think this is boring? Terrific film IMHO.

Well, all I can say is that this kind of reaction is bound to happen sometimes when your talking about such a prolific film-maker who almost exclusively made masterpieces, one after another. You pick and choose.

Atonement - Make fun if you want, I am not ashamed to say I love this movie. Its like if Alex Korda or perhaps Ophuls made a film now. I'm not a Knightley hater, I think she is absolutely gorgeous & a very good actress at her best in this film. And I put it in the top 10 of best looking PQ on on Blu-Ray.

I'm a huge Kurosawa fan and I don't care for Ran and Kagemusha. I love his early works but his later films don't pack the same punch.

Yeah, K's later more epic films, while fantastic in their own right, don't pack the same personal punch that his earlier films do.

Kinda fun, kinda lame, but Kevin Spacey is always awesome.
