Coraline

Interesting movie, and enjoyed it. But it did have a typical ending.

Terminator: Salvation - Really liked it, very entertaining action movie, who ever said it had to be anything else? Thought the PQ was outstanding.

The Recruit I'm sure Colin Ferrel did it so he could boink Moynahan before Brady got to her

The Last Samurai - Visually impressive film and it really shows. And even though the soundtrack is a lossy DD 5.1 it's still performs commendably.

Precious. Nothing prepared me for the emotional power of this film. I was shocked and amazed by the film simultaneously, both for it's genuine artistry and for the disturbing and overwhelming story that it told. Now that I have seen it, I can say without reservation that this was one of the year's Best films.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog - Very surprised by what a significant upgrade the transfer is.

La Traviata Opera on Blu. Picked it up for $9.99 on Amazon on a lark. It's awesome if you are at all into opera.

Jean-Luc Godard's Vivre Sa Vie (1962): took two viewing for me to get over the 'Godard-isms' placed by the director between me and his movie/muse/wife. Once I 'got' it though this is one hell of a showcase of Godard and his then-wife Anna Karina at the peak of their craft/relationship. Gorgeous B&W cinematography from Raoul Coutard is neatly preserved for posterity on Blu-ray.
Jacques Tati's Playtime (1967): while technically amazing (the set/art desing of 'Tativille' is as epic in its scope as those pre-CGI 'cast of thousand' epics) the humanity of Monsieur Hulot and every other human character is lost in a sea of glass and cold colors. The HD transfer isn't poor but it's still too far removed from the 70mm original negative to have the visual impact of a "2001: Space Odyssey"-type spectacle.
Nicolas Roeg's Walkabout (1971): the ending of this movie hit me like a ton of bricks even though I'd already seen it. Fantastic, natural colors (a bit soft and faded but accurate) and great new bonus features (interviews with the three leads) puts the old Criterion DVD to shame.

The Road - This is how you do post-apocalyptic... if you really want to completely depress your audience. Sadly, this is probably how things would go down if we were ever left on a dead planet. Viggo was robbed of a nomination. PQ: 3.5/5, AQ: 4/5

The Wolfman (Unrated) - I enjoyed this in theaters, but I felt it was lacking in many areas. The DC fixed some issues, but others are still not fully developed. But I think the film looks gorgeous and it features some great scenes of werewolf carnage. PQ: 4/5, AQ: 4.5/5

Minority Report - nice P & A quality, ruined by a bad movie. Hadn't seen it since it came out, and I still think it sucks. I love the original story/themes/ideas but the weak screenplay just doesn't do it for me, despite Spielberg's cool visualizations. Glad I rented.

And thanks for the heads-up on The Road, getting that next in my queue.
