Just finished watching Ponyo. Beautiful movie, gorgeous music, and lovely artwork. Now I need to track down a BD release with a lossless Japanese language track and English or Spanish subtitles.

Just finished Jerry Maguire. What I want to know is why two people were credited for Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s makeup. Really? Two people for him? Was it that hard to smear a streak of under-eye makeup for a few football scenes?

I just watched The Arrival, and it was as good as I remembered (I haven't seen it since it came out in '96). The Blu Ray is pretty good, considering that it's a 14 year old low budget movie. Hell, I don't think the movie looked nearly this good in the theater!
And for $8 at WalMart that was a pretty darned good buy.

Ip Man
Final Destination(3D)
Ip Man is a masterpiece. One of the best martial arts films I have seen in a long time and Donnie Yen is simply incredible!
Final Destination on the other hand was on the lame side. Admittedly, this series is a guilty pleasure and it appears that they are finally running out of gas. The 3D gave me a headache 5 minutes in so I switched to the 2D version for the remainder of the film. I'd like to say it was entertaining but, it really wasn't.

The Invasion - Started off good, but quickly devolved into an inane "thriller" (I'm using that term loosely) with some terrible writing, action and just about everything else. Too bad because there was some good potential there. PQ was so-so, AQ fared a bit better. I borrowed it from a friend, doubt I'd ever buy it for myself.

the less expensive Hong Kong bluray (compared to the Japanese BR) has english subs and the original Japanese language track in 6.1 DTS HD MA sound.

today:
Ninja Assassin
The Princess and the Frog
yesterday (Monday):
Beowulf
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (down converting the 7.1 soundmix to 6.1 was VERY very impressive)

500 Days of Summer
It was such a great movie. I love quirky, unconventional romantic comedies so it's hard to believe that this one slipped under my radar for so long. 9/10.

WALL-E, which we just bought. I really responded emotionally to Up, but I think this is still Pixar's finest achievement to date. It was spectacular in Hi-Def.

Planet 51 - Dumb, but kinda fun/cool animated kids flick, normally not my bag. PQ was flawless, AQ was equally solid. Fans of 50's sci-fi flicks would get a kick out of it.
