Watched the last episode of Continuum: Season One while we ate dinner: End Time.

Not really a fan of this movie but the wife wanted to see it again. When we were in Scotland we went to go see Rosslyn Chapel which is shown at the end of the movie. Found out they used to get about 6000 tourists a year. When the book was published it jumped into the 70's and when the movie came out, the number went to 170,000+ per year. At $10 a head.

It was ok but don't see what the big deal was.

It was fine. It was actually a lot like the first one, which is fine, but I guess I was expecting something a little different.

I wasn't here for the 4th so I watched this last night.



Another summer time tradition

Has Arnold made one good movie since he retired as governor of CA? I will give him credit for trying something different though I wonder why the director chose him for this project.

While it's no classic, I thought The Last Stand was pretty good fun.

I thought Maggie was decent too.

Better picture. Better sound. Far superior to the HD DVD it replaced. Plus it has the original theatrical sound effects. A+

^ good to know there are A.V improvements. Will definitely be picking that up at some point then.



Been binge watching this over the last week. Have two eps left I'll finish tonight. Have been enjoying this season quite a bit with all it's nods to the DC U and it's farther out aspects like the multiverse and whatnot. I'm also starting to warm up on Wally and will be interested to see him don the suit in the future. Unless it totally collapses in these next two eps, it will have been well worth the $12 I spend on BF.



I'd caught bits and pieces of this over the years on cable, and was familiar with the broad strokes of the story. Never watched it from start to finish until now and TBH, I was floored at how good this was.
I was not expecting how well crafted, well preformed or just how affecting the material would be- despite even knowing some of the plot turns.
Reese was incredible. Not just 'because of her age'. I honestly thought she was the equal or even better than most of her far more experienced co-stars. Not a fan of hers, but she didn't strike one false note to me here. But everyone was great. not a bad performance in the bunch. The film oozed atmosphere and authenticity. I bought it looking to enjoy the bucolic southern atmosphere on a lazy summer night- and it had that in spades. But so much more too. Anything more I say is gonna be insufficient. I read DVD Savant's review of it afterwards and agree with everything he said. Mulligan has made some fine films (can't wait for Love With The Proper Stranger in Sept.). This one is right at the top of the list. VERY underrated.
I can say this is now one of my favorite films of the '90's.

The Sopranos seasons 1-5, now on season 6 part 1
I quit the show during it's original HBO run before season 4 so the latter seasons are all new to me, IMO season 4 was average at best but season 5 was almost as good as season 3, season 6 is good so far.

A few chuckles, a few boobs and bikes. A good rental but I would never own it.

Terrible

Been wanting to see this movie since it's theatrical release, and yet I never felt ready to invest the time when I knew it was going to be a slow, and possibly frustrating mood piece.
And it was. It was definitely hypnotic to a point- and gets across a very eerie and unsettling vibe- though it could have told it's simple story a lot more efficiently.
At least my appreciation of Scarlett remains undiminished.






As soon as the opening credits were over and Steinfeld and Harrelson had their first scene together, I realized how massively overrated this movie was going to be. And then for the next hour and thirty plus minutes the movie proceeded to prove me wrong. The opening scene set me up to expect another snarky, Diablo Cody style antagonist and everyone she encounters who isn't as secretly hip as she is.
Instead the film consistently surprised me. While it doesn't fully reinvent the coming of age genre, it does play fair with all the other characters in the protagonist's life and elicits honest, dramatic emotion. That was VERY refreshing to see.
In some ways, this is like an anti-John Hughes movie. I guess that's one reason I liked it so much.

Not usually a fan of horror movies but this one I liked. You could actually see the guy acting and reacting that way in the situation. Wish they showed more of Allison Williams. She's already done some pretty racy stuff, wish it carried over.

Funny how "nobbing" was explained as "F@#cking" in closed captioning.

Just got my first 3D projector set up, and had a lot of fun with:

Sweet, disarming story of pubescent puppy love in a working class Brit school. The film almost gets a little too patronizing at the end, with an adults vs kids confrontation that is a little too unrealistic- however the very last scene doubles down on that romantic unrealism and is actually, quite a perfect way to close it out.
The child actors are all fine, with the three leads being especially good. It's easy to see why Wilde had such an active career at an early age.
The PQ was fine, but the audio (with a soundtrack made up of mostly early non disco Bee Gees songs) is often sibilant and sadly one of the weaker audio tracks I've heard in a long time.



Comfort food.

I'm playing golf at my high school reunion this coming weekend so I thought I'd watch this educational documentary. I think this disc is kaput. At one point I had to stop and restart because the sound was playing but the picture was freezing every few seconds. Then a second time the sound was about 5 seconds out of sync with the picture but a pause and restart fixed that. I'll have to keep my eyes open for BR next time I'm at Wal Mart or Best Buy. See if they still stock them.

Kind of boring and not worth the 4 month wait at Netflix.

What a tragic ending.

Watched The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (Director's Cut) this evening...

Last week I had a two-hour slot to plug, so I thought I'd finally get out my bluray of "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec", Luc Besson's adaptation of some Jacque Tardi comics. I opened the package and tossed in the disc. I thought the first ten minutes or so, -a night scene, -was terribly grainy, but the PQ improved after that. What bothered me was the subtitles, which had that electronically-generated look with the jagged edges. About 40 minutes in I had to check something on my computer and I thought I'd take a quick look at a review to see if that person had the same issues I did. The reviewer thought it was a beautiful disc, -no complaints. Then I noticed that it was two discs, and I didn't remember there being one. I opened the case and there was another disc under the sheet with the digital code, - a Blu-Ray! I had been watching the DVD! Doh!!

Of course, the BD version looks and sounds far better than the DVD. It's more of a Comic Mis-Adventure Film than a Fantasy or Action film, but it has a lot of charm, something that cannot be said of Besson's "Valerian".
