re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

I have a soft spot for this film, which I found wildly funny when I saw it in its original theatrical run when I was thirteen. But then again, I found most EVERYTHING to be funny when I was thirteen.

I can't say the same for Gene Wilder's commentary track, which is about 80% silence, 15% drivel ("Those are stunt doubles...now that's me and Roy Kinnear...now it's back to stunt doubles...now that's me and Roy..."), and 5% actually interesting comments.

Just upgraded my old HD DVD to BR. Love the story, love the visuals. Felt the audio was a bit front heavy compared to other recent movies I've seen.

Some people were creeped out by the animation in Polar Express.

Watched Quarantine this evening. I think that is one movie I probably don't care to ever see again.

Got up to the penultimate ep from

watched part of

I couldn't keep my eyes open so I had to bail midway through which I hate to do.

Great, very colorful Tashlin Christmas-time comedy. I'd forgotten just how subversively racy it is, albeit with a very benign, cartoonish exterior.

The WA disc is a gorgeous eye popper.

Finished both of these last night

GOT managed to not only end on a hell of a cliffhanger, but also to still be incredibly satisfying.
Like all these great serials of the last decade +, I'm not sure it will stick the landing, but it's gonna be fun to anticipate at least.

SSH was a great choice for WA to release.Powell is slightly creepy in the lead and looks at least 15-20 years older than his character's age, but Reynolds is a complete delight and Tashlin's Technicolor palate is absolute eye candy. Great to have this one in the library in a high grade presentation.

I remember when this came out around Christmas of 1980. The teaming of three notable female leads (and Parton's first acting role) along with the 'downtrodden women strike back' plot struck me, even at a young age, as pandering and gimmicky. But the performances and fleet direction from Higgins transcended that then and it still holds up well for me.

It's interesting to compare and contrast this with another earlier 1980 comedy about three downtrodden women who have to go around the law. I still like How To Beat The High Cost Of Living, but it's mainly due to nostalgia now as the film is clearly a big misfire. Plenty of fine elements on their own, that just never gel together as they would do in the later film.

Extended Cut from

39 years and one day since I first saw this in the theater (yeah, I remember shit like this). Over those years I seen this probably too many times. Hard to get too excited about it anymore. It's a bit of a rote experience at this point.
But I'd missed the second half of the ABC airing, and had never seen the KCOP version, so I was looking forward to finally spinning this.

An utterly depressing endeavor. Just like more than half of the new material inserted into the Director's Cut, nearly all the material here is pretty damned cringe worthy and was wisely jettisoned.

The theatrical version is still the best way to see this. I'll probably keep the disc around, but I honestly can't ever see wanting to watch it again like that.

I won't go so low as the Hallmark Channel but I will stoop low enough to watch this every year. Has some good lines. I like trying to spot the differences in height with Witherspoon to Vaughn from one shot to the next since she had to stand on a box most of the time.

We watched that last night as well while wrapping presents. It's been awhile since we watched it but was funnier than I remembered.
