Arrival

Those pricks at Netflix don't have it so I had to get it from Redbox.

Good looking disc, too bad it was on that old, outdated BR technology and not 4K

All We Had

The directorial debut of Katie Holmes. Her acting was not that bad.

I'd always been intrigued by Doctor Strange as a comic book character, was not a big reader, but was excited nonetheless when they announced the making of this movie. My wife and I both really enjoyed this, was definitely different from any other "super hero" movie. They couldn't have picked a better actor to portray Doctor Strange. I'm really glad I bought this, Blu-ray 2D was definitely good enough for me.

Although not dramatic, the detail and color are an improvement over standard BR. Gotten me interested in buying again which I haven't wanted to do in years.

4k sounds cool but when you put a number probably 16K or 64K will come out and make it obsolete.

Masterminds. They probably saved the best jokes for the first 30 or 40 minutes and then it just became generic.

Kill Bill

Well everything will be obsolete at some point. 8K is already on the drawing board. By the time we get to 12K or higher our eyes won't be able to detect any difference, then what will they do?

I saw Masterminds in the theater on a business trip. For the level of talent I was surprised at how tame it was. I keep expecting ZG to be the one man laugh factory like he was in Hangover. But between this and Keeping Up With The Joneses, either he's not really that funny, or other writers don't know how to write for him.

It jumped the shark when the Sudekis hit man character appeared. Too bad since this is probably the best Hollywood can come up with the 4 comedy movies released in 2016 and the number will decrease where they maybe do 3 summer comedies and that is it.

Allied...well I watched it till the end which is saying something, but it really wasn't a great movie and can't believe it got high recommend here. Both Brad and Marion look like their acting, very stiff and not life like. It tried to be English Patient or something. Sweeping and epic, but it wasn't. No naturalness and coming from Zemeckis that doesn't surprise me since his movies are technical marvels, but lack depth or substance. At least for me anyway. This was hollow, but serviceable.

Desierto...i really didn't need to see helpless immigrants being picked off by a psycho, even if it was Jeff Dean Morgan. not a good movie, thematically maybe relevant, but not good.

Moana (3D)...sick at home, put this on and wow! blown the freaking away by this one. i loved everything about it. the colors, the music, the story, the animation, the voice work, everything. just fantastic. Disney never ceases to amaze. they do it over and over, somehow make it fresh and breathtaking. this one will be remembered for a long time.

My Bloody Valentine (3D)...pretty decent. some nice kills, eventhough only one weapon. i thought i saw this already, but must have not remembered because i didn't know about the twist. it was ok. 3D not bad either. good depth, some nice jump out effects, especially that eye scene. that was great. while this one didn't seem dark, i did think there was a lack of color. very saturated and dingy. i know mining town and down home and all that, but not sure if DP purposefully did or again, my settings. but still ok movie.

Romancing the Stone...needed a feel good movie and have maybe seen this only twice in my life. Saw and liked when I was a wee lil one in theaters, I think. Watched with such giddy delight. Douglass as an action hero? Kathleen Turner as the hot heroine? Unbelievable it worked so well. And then saw it was Robert Zemeckis who directed! Must have been one of first. They just don't make fucking pictures like this anymore. No CGI, just down and dirty, real locale, adventure with comedy pictures anymore. Fucking pure!

Suprising to see Nick Kroll play a serious role.

The Long Kiss Goodnight...never saw it before. Man, Geena Davis was bad ass! Sam Jackson states this as his most watched movie of his. Really cheesy, but the angle works. Takes a bit to get going. Maybe 40 minutes and then it's just all a go. Nice little piece for Harlin.
