Interstellar

A Most Violent Year

Kind of slow and not as good as I expected but all the critics seemed to like it.

It was a Jessica Chastain double feature weekend.

I would say its better than the second one but the bar was set pretty low. An OK rental but no interest in ever revisiting.

Monkey Shines. Pretty decent slow burn horror film and a pretty unique, but over the top (it is a horror film after all) idea for a film. I wouldn't say it was perfect but pretty fun and worth a watch.

Calling this movie bleak is an injustice to bleak movies. There is so much depressing stuff going on here it's a tough watch at times. Well done but difficult subject matter.

Decided to revisit this fun flick last night. It still holds up after all this time.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qPJgbv1nHBw?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The A/V quality of the BD is still reference quality. So much detail, including individual threads of fabric on the clothes. The sound is enveloping and the dialogue crystal clear.

Big Eyes

Christoph Waltz stole this movie. A scumbag you love to hate.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

I finally watched Nolan's Interstellar. I liked it a lot, for the first 2 and a half hours anyway. It felt like a homage to 2001 or was inspired by that film. I was let down a bit by the finale. Like Inception I felt Nolan had hours and hours worth of script but decided to cut things short since the movie was already nearing three hours.

I want to see The Immigrant and Map to the Stars.

Maybe when the new releases slow down I can rent them.

More thriller than spooky ghost movie, Echoes is fine if you catch it on cable. I wouldn't pay for it.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

I like Chris Rock and Tracey Morgan. Tracey was just in one small scene but was funny. The whole tone of the film was not conducive to a comedy. An on-the-wagon alcoholic comedian is trying to be taken seriously as a dramatic actor. He is followed around by an on-the-wagon journalist who has bad things happen to her as well. Not comedic slapstick things, just bad things. There was another scene where he hit the stage at a comedy club that was funny. All in all a big disappointment. My wife saw the first few minutes, said "I thought this was supposed to be a comedy" and went to bed.

A fascinating story told in a rather listless fashion, Kidnapping Mr. Heineken feels like a movie made for television if it was not for the presence of Anthony Hopkins.
