Stronger stuff than what I was expecting, right from the opening scene.
Story concerns the emotional instability experienced by a middle aged high school teacher in a small Kansas town, circa the '50's. Whether due to a lack of intimacy (she's still a virgin with no boyfriend) or early menopause, her journey to reach some inner peace will end up taking her through some dark, transgressive territory.
From a work by William Inge, the film features good period detail and a strong cast of primarily character actors. I also thought Heywood was excellent in the title role.
I first became aware of the film when I was 11 and sneaking peaks in my father's Playboys. A very racy shot from this appeared in the annual year end Sex In The Cinema recap, and I've never forgot it.
Interesting drama that I'm happy I was finally able to see and happy that an outfit like Vinegar Syndrome would see enough value in to release.
Although it's scanned in 2K, the original elements aren't in the greatest shape. The soundtrack especially, and unfortunately, has some noticeable static/noise.

Another case of a film I originally watched about ten years ago and was disappointed in (after running across years of hype) where a fresh re-watching yielded a much more enjoyable experience.
In the case of this film, I attribute that to going in this time with no expectations of a conventionally involving (and resolved) story and being prepared to just soak in the atmosphere. Approaching the material like that, I found myself able to appreciate other aspects like theme and character, with a greater vividness and clarity.
With the proper expectations, this was every bit as bewitching a film as people had been saying for years. I'd had my doubts when I went on that Criterion binge over the summer, but I'm very glad now I gave it another shot. I'm hoping when I get around to Jules and Jim, I'll have a similar epiphany.

I thought it was OK. The story is basically the day to day activities (some of which are very disturbing and sometimes sad) of this crazy guy who after losing his home becomes crazier by the minute. The story is kind of weak which is a shame because the performance by Scott Haze in the lead is really good.

I rented this a week ago.
It's a decent supernatural romance movie. It's really 1st and foremost a tearjerker chick flick. If you're not into romance movies, then I can see they may not be your cup of tea. I thought Chloe Grace Moretz was pretty solid in this.

Usually that is not my favorite genre though I liked the Fault in Our Stars.
Carrie with Moretz was better.
