Muppets Most Wanted

I thought it was entertaining and not as bad as some people thought it was.

Unlike when I purchased the dvd all those years ago, I knew full well what I was getting into this time. Not being a real big fan of slapstick, I originally found the movie intermittently charming but more than a bit tedious and exhausting. I've never pulled the dvd out a second time to watch it all the way through (though I did use it quite frequently early on as a demo disc for certain scenes).
My interest in getting the Bd was mostly curiosity about how those old demo scenes would look in higher res on better gear. The more I flipped through it though, the more I wanted to see it all over again. Ended up being just the exact right time to watch it. Enjoyed it pretty much start to finish, and all the excesses I was dreading seeing again, sailed by pleasantly and innocuously.
Mancini's terrific score made a real impression this time and the PQ was frequently dazzling.
In the right frame of mind, this ended up being great fun.

Couple change of pacers:
1. Tim's Vermeer - if you're in the mood for a documentary type feature, an interesting way to spend about 90 minutes.
2. The Lunchbox - nice little movie. The ending wasn't Hollywood and I think that added to it. I really want to eat Indian food now.

Ghostbusters - still as funny as ever even though it seemed a lot shorter than I remember it being. 5/5

Ghostbusters II - while not a classic like the first one still a lot of fun and doesn't deserve the hate it sometimes gets 3.5/5

Young Frankenstein - still the funniest movie of all time. Teri Garr is gorgeous. 5/5

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - still the best horror film of all time. I bit my nails down to the stubs again like I always do when she is running through the woods. 5/5

The opening chase was filmed in rochester so that was cool.

I'd still do Sally Field's old wrinkly ass cause i still see the hot thing from Smokey and the Bandit

Andrew Garfield is too ugly for a hot chick like Emma Stone

Saw a 35mm print recently , that five-note stinger would make a great ringtone .

Dark Comedy. I liked it but the wife gave up after 30 minutes. A bit salty on the language.

I'm a big fan of Billy Wilder, but have always been apathetic about checking this out due to hearing about the nature of it's ending. I never heard exactly what goes down, but knowing something will made the movie seem like a gimmicky, one trick pony.
But having watched it I can see now it's just as re-watchable as almost any other Wilder film. Great performances all around. Even though Laughton gets all the accolades, it was actually Power and Dietrich who impressed me the most.
Great film, wonderfully presented. Very happy I finally broke down and gave it a spin.

This was a spur of the moment impulse purchase in the last B&N sale. Up until I bought it I had no interest whatsoever in seeing it. I'm not a huge fan of slapstick and figured like WFTP, this was going to be a one-trick pony show built around the iconic image of Lloyd hanging off the clock.
It was actually a relatively brief, sweetly realized earnest lad makes good story with orchestrated visual gags more in line with Keaton. I was impressed. Lloyd was also a fresh and likable presence.
I now have to shift my budget around for the November B&N sale, because suddenly The Freshmen is on my radar.

After umpteen viewings this is still a lot of fun. And this was one of the best viewings ever thanks to the HD uptick. Spectacular resolution and an eye-popping array of heavily saturated, brilliant colors.
