Jason and the Argonauts - Astounding looking PQ & the Peter Jackson commentary is fantastic. One of my favorite blu-rays.

Tried watching Sunshine late last night, but I never knew about the assinine PiP pop-up problems on the PS3, which I found out at about 5 minutes into the movie.

True Romance (1993) - Great movie, but not the best Blu-ray.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

Does anyone actually watch all the criterions they buy during the sales or are most here just "collectors", because outside of like 2 people, nobody ever seems to watch a criterion. Anyway. . . .

Hausu - I absolutely loved every bat-shit insane second of this movie. Definitely a highly re-watchable movie.

You mean people are supposed to watch the movies? I thought people only bought them because

It was a smokin deal
It had cool special packaging
I bought it to sit on the shelf just in case I want to see it someday.
It's available for friends and family to borrow
It had special features that the first two editions I bought didn't have
Renting is too inconvenient
They lose resale value if I open the package

Honestly, I've been reading these threads still but I haven't been posting in here as often as I used to. I'm sure you've noticed as I used to post here all the time. I still have a crap-load of stuff to watch, but I do frequently watch films (including the Criterion's I've purchased) but when I watch them I don't always post about it anymore.

I may try to make an effort to post in here more often again though. I enjoyed the conversations, recommendations, and debate.

I don't post here much either, certainly not like I use to & honestly, its because of all the collectors and weirdo buyers that have taken over the forum. Its just become less about film here, & more about getting movies based on their packaging. And god forbid you don't like a blockbuster movie here, people go nuts.

I didn't mean you, you know your taste is great. But look at all the posts of people buying Criterions, even whenever a new criterion is announced, all the criterion buyers come out & say they are buying them. But nobody every actually posts that they watch them, or discuss the films. Just seems like a bunch of collectors.

It's just that almost all the discussion as to the actual content of what we buy seems to fall on deaf ears, at least in this part of these boards.

'tis true. I should also point out that the 45 minute feature on House is phenomenal & in HD. The film was made with such joy & a spirit of cinema & innovation that modern directors just don't have anymore.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

I didn't get in on the Criterion sale, but if I had I can say I probably would have concentrated on titles I streamed in September for the Criterion challenge. I loved several of them (especially the four Bergman films I watched), but wouldn't necessarily feel the need to re-watch them just because I had just found a good deal on it. And knowing I want to participate in next year's Criterion challenge, I might have picked out some blind buys and set them aside. I can't say that's how it is for everyone else (or even anyone else), but that would be my explanation for buying and not watching right now.

I am looking forward to seeing House! Heard nothing but good things!

Predators - Thought this was ok in theaters, liked it less at home. Too much retread of the original film. Good, not great PQ and solid AQ. Going through the extras this week.

And I've got a little pile of Criterions waiting to go from the last couple sales, but I haven't had the proper time to sit and watch them yet. Soon.

Modern Times - Utterly charming and captivating. Listening to the commentary as I type this.

Undisputed III: Redemption

Some of the best fight choreography I have seen from a new film in a really long time.

Easy Rider from the BBS box-set - seeing it for the first time in almost a decade.

Even since the early '80s, people have been saying it's dated. They're full of shit.
It's as relevant and as vital a film as ever.
Hopper:
They're scared [of us].

Nicholson:
They're not scared of you.
They're scared of what you represent to them.

All we represent to them is somebody who needs a haircut.

Oh, no.
What you represent to them...
...is freedom.

Freedom's what it's all about!

Oh yeah, that's right. That's what it's all about.
But talking about it and being it...
...that's two different things.
lt's real hard to be free...
...when you’re bought and sold in the marketplace.
Don't tell anybody that they're not free, because they'll get busy...
...killing and maiming to prove to you that they are.
They're going to talk to you and talk to you...
...about individual freedom.
But when they see a free individual, it's going to scare them.

Well, it don't make them running scared.

No, it makes them dangerous.
