Daybreakers

My girlfriend actually recommended this film to me, said she liked it a lot. I felt the same after watching it. The film isn't 100% original, but it feels really fresh. This offering is definitely more realized than the Spierig's previous effort

Finally opened the $2 copy HD DVD I have of Superman Returns.

Hoewever, this should really be in the category of "Last HD DVD/BD you started to watch but realized it was so stinking bad you practically tore it out of the player"

Man. For $2 I could have gotten a coffee and 1/2 a donut.

The Girl Who Played with Fire - Its amazing how such enthralling and riveting books can be turned into such bromide and lifeless films. Even more amazing how many people rave about these adaptations. A rare case where I'm looking forward to the American remakes hoping for something better.

I enjoyed the first two books. Haven't gotten past the first 80 pages of the third book yet. But I agree with you about the movies. I was looking forward to seeing the first one but when I started watching it I found it barely held my interest.

Dead Silence (HD-DVD)

Spoiler:
The only good thing about this movie was the fact that the father was a dummy.

Good thing I only paid $5 for this POS.

Dragon Hunters - PQ & AQ were both excellent...the movie itself was decent. I gave it a 3/5 stars on Netflix.

Toy Story 3
ALIENS

Both of them have the most impressive A/V I've seen to date.

Centurion

Good bloody fun! It's really well made and looks fantastic, with some amazing scenery that really shines on blu-ray. Some great violence but there's more than a few times that they do a CGI blood-spray and those look really bad.

How to Train Your Dragon - outstanding audio and video. Great movie as well. Nothing new about the story...but it was super fun, humorous, and the LFE in some scenes was awesome.

The Magician - I know this is considered one of Berman's lesser and least like films, but I absolutely loved it. I could due with out the attempts at humor which mostly fell flat but I loved von Sydow & Ingrid Thulin and the charlatan themes of creativity. Also a gorgeuous looking transfer.

I'm glad you loved it so much. This is actually one of my favorite Bergman films and I'm very pleased with the Criterion Blu-ray release. Have you had a chance to check out any of the bonus features? There's a great brief video interview with Bergman where he describes how he feels about the relationship between audiences and filmmakers through his telling of a story. Truly a great interview moment - at least in my own opinion.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

Watched so far over the weekend:

The Magician - Overall it was a good movie, but something about it didn't quite suck me in completely. I'll give it another chance a few months from now, and see if my feelings about it change much then.

House - (2nd viewing, originally saw it on dvd) I love how bizarre it is. I think it peaks in the first third of the film though. After that it gets all haunted house / scooby-doo like. It's still a treat to see, and a movie that was just as enjoyable the second time around.

Alice in Wonderland (2010) - Overall a hum-drum movie.

The Return of the Living Dead - One of my favorites of all-time. Too bad the PQ is a mediocre upgrade, at best, over the current DVDs. At least it's got some good extras, especially both commentary tracks.

Usually the more there are the less likely I am to even check them out. If there are a few on the movie disc I'll usually at least see what's there. If i have to put in other discs, chances are I won't bother

Wonderland - quite a fascinating tale despite mostly negative reviews. The crime scene footage on the extras...yikes! more horrifying than any horror movie I'ved ever seen.
