Correct, it's a prequel

It's official a prequel, but all the trailers make it look exactly like the first film. So, it seems to be a secret remake in the guise of a prequel.

It's TECHNICALLY a prequel, since it takes place at the Norwegian camp that they investigate in Carpenter's film. But from everything I've seen, it's really a remake.

Now I could be wrong, and I'll watch it and be pleasantly surprised at what they do, instead of telegraphing everything that happens based on what happened in Carpenter's film. But I'm not expecting that to be the case.

It is a prequel, but it's the best of both worlds for Universal as obviously the same kind of shit went down at that camp as did the US camp including distrust, suspicion, etc, etc. I'm sure they'll formulate some sort of 'blood test' or something similar as well.

I'm just honestly wondering how it ends...cuz it'll be an interesting ending for a newer audience. And what we expected already. I'm just iffy if they'll actually let it end that way.

Saw the latest preview a couple days ago. Looked like there is some prequel stuff but many of the scenes looked like they were pulled directly from the original. Even some of the characters looked similar to the original. And they sure didn't sound Swedish....errr....Norwegian

Wow, some people who get it. I keep telling people that it is essentially a remake, but people keep saying "but it's at the Norwegian camp" like that really means anything. Yes, technically a prequel, but this is clearly mostly a clever loophole.

Re: The Thing - Why Is This So Hard To Find?

Didn't know there was a trailer out yet. Watched it and am now sad. This could have been great, especially if they had done it in Norwegian, found a look alike for the guy who gets shot in the American camp and had that be the last scene of the movie.

But yeah looks like a lame remake.

I still don't get how anyone can argue that this isn't largely a remake based from the trailer. Adding a woman to the cast doesn't change that it looks like a pretty close facsimile without anywhere near the same level of quality.
