Still a huge improvement for a WB box set. Much rather have this than a foldout digipak or whatever.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

Having the set, it's not bad. The case housing the movies is basically the same as the Smallville set and the discs themselves seem to be solidly held in place. I actually like it as I can store the outer box (and digital copies) elsewhere and put the movies-only case on the shelf.

Here it is. (yeah, weird that it doesn't link properly here - try this:
http://bluviews..com/?p=923 but put "movie mans guide" without the spaces between the two periods.

What sucks about it is that the digital copies take up half the space in the box. Those are essentially disposable discs, since they become useless once you use them and they eventually expire anyways. So you're basically left with a half empty box.

I'm mostly skipping this not so much because it's the theatrical version (I think those do have some merit), but because 6 of these nine discs are superfluous and unnecessary. The only reason it's 9 discs is so they can better justify the price they're charging for it. This just needed to be the 3 bd discs at a lower price.

Digital copies should be download only. Maybe a coupon for a disc the 1% of people who would use a digital copy but don't have broadband will need.

For that matter, what percent of users is even using the digital copy?

Well well well! Looks like the Best Buy case might have been the best option to go with after all?

Lol, the extras discs are the exact same ones as initially released.

My EE box never looked so good...

Also, there's a link from Gizmo's post with more images of the packaging but for some reason it can't be posted here correctly.
DVDTalk has blocked the website I write for. So I can't post pictures.

Its 2 BD cases - -
1 case = 6 disc BD case that holds the BDs and DVDs
1 case = 3 disc BD case that holds the 3 Digital Copies

I assume eventually it will just be the 6 disc case out in retail once the digital copy versions are all sold out.

Yeah, Warner really tried to put the 'extra value' out to justify the high price. 3 Digital copies (which could have easily fit on 1 damn DVD), and 3 'special feature' DVDs which could have fit on a single BD25 (or just a BD25 for each film).

Studios say it would be 20% for certain releases. Catalog is probably 1-5%, since not many catalog titles even include a DC.

Bleh. A plastic 'steelbook' that is freakin huge? Nahh. The case that holds the BD/DVDs is just fine. The cardboard slip gets tossed and the DCs get sold.

Maybe I am speaking too soon, but I'll let you know once I get my review copy in, as I do have the BB case and I can compare.

I'll probably just toss the 3 DVDs as well and stick all 3 BDs in a normal BD case. I don't care about the special features (hell, I've never even seen these movies before).

Hell, I'd buy movie-only EE on blu. Especially if it were one box for the whole thing.
+1 Don't really care about the extras but with these movies it seems like so many details were in the extra footage I'd hate to lose it.

That cover "art" is really ugly.

I wouldn't even bother with this if it was really cheap (under $20). I'll be sitting out waiting for the tricked-out EE sets they'll release to push "The Hobbit."

maybe that'd give the features extra value tho rather than if you'd watched them before

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

I might get it, not sure. Depending on money situation. I sure would like to watch these gems in HD, with my new improved sound system. Overall it's hard to decide though. If I have nothing else interesting to buy and money situation is ok, then I might bite.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

I keep saying I'll wait for the EE's in HD. I thoroughly enjoyed these movies however because they are so long and intertwined I haven't watched them a second time since I got the EE's anyway.

Re: Lord of The Rings on Blu-Ray in 2010!

DVD Town dot COM has a review up.

PQ 9 out of 10

"One of the best live action movie ever put out on BR"

No thankyou, NO EE - No money from the IRON_GIANT.

Because this is not EE, I was not even excited to read the review.

All they had to do was put the EE on the BR and make it able to "Branch or UN-Branch" to show the TE version. Or, all they had to do was put both on one Disk, we would have all flocked to the stores and laid down our hard earned money.

Small point, but this my 4,000th post. Thankyou all for you knowledge, input, reviews, funny comments and Troll killing - the last 9 years have been a blast.

Congrats and you're welcome, on behalf of everyone.

Another small point, coincidentally, I finally bought your movie today.

Future Shop has the Steelbook preorders up now.

This is a completely different SB than the one that the U.S. received. (Not a stick book)
