Paramount Home Entertainment has released a TV series-based hi-def home video disc package once before, with last November's Star Trek - Season 1: Remastered HD DVD and DVD Combo, which (as the title tells) was for the now-defunct HD DVD hi-def format. But since the studio has moved back into the Blu-ray Disc camp, they haven't announced any "TV-on-BD" titles for the winning hi-def disc format...until today. And it's a killer title, too! This morning they've revealed that January 6th will see Dexter - The 1st Season on Blu-ray Disc.

Dexter is a crime drama about Dexter Morgan, a man who leads a double life as an incredibly likeable forensics expert for the Miami Police Department and as an emotionless vigilante serial killer. Taught by his foster father to harness his lust for blood and killing, Dexter lives by his own strict moral code - he only kills murderers who can't otherwise be brought to justice. Dexter is a killer who grapples with fitting into society while, at the same time, he struggles with his inability to feel emotion. The irony of Dexter's life is that he works closely as a blood splatter analyst with the very people who hunt his kind - the homicide departments.

All 12 episodes, running 576 minutes, will be presented in 1080p high definition widescreen. Audio soundtrack will be in English - 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, with a Spanish - 2.0 Dolby Digital option. English subtitles are also going to be available. Package art, bonus material and other details haven't been provided yet, but stay tuned and we'll update you just as soon as we can!

DEFINITELY getting this.

tonymontana313 10-06-08 10:31 AM

Hell yeah! Now it would be awesome if HBO would announce BD plans for Entourage.

Skoobooz 10-06-08 10:37 AM

DVD Times also has announcements for all of those December/January Paramount catalog titles, along with an actual date/spec list for Zodiac on January 27th:

No Braveheart, but perhaps that will warrant its own press release when the time comes....

I may have overlooked this but with the new Psycho standard dvd release out tomorrow, has there been any mention of it making it to BD anytime soon. I don't want to buy the SD when a BD ought to be released.

You mean Universal releasing a new catalog title? No, not this year. They are now working into 2009 for catalog releases as are most studios.

I think we'll see some Hitchcock titles next year with The Birds remake coming out.

The Matrix, Amadeus Digibooks - Quarter 1

Warner Home Video has revealed that they will bring 'The Matrix' and 'Amadeus: Director's Cut' to Blu-ray in the first quarter of next year. Both titles will receive digibook treatment, meaning they will come packaged with a hard cover book containing exclusive pictures and essays. Additionally, 'Amadeus' will come a CD sampler.

---------------------

dobyblue posted at blu-ray.com that Amadeus likely won't have lossless audio because the encode was done 2 years ago.

dobyblue posted today that WB has now done a new encode about a month ago. So there is now a chance it will have lossless audio. The old encode was DD 5.1 only.

I am so on that Zodiac Blu-Ray...though sadly it is only director's cut. Paramount could have put both cuts on. But, the director's cut and extras are phenomenal so this complaint is minor.

Looking forward to future Hitchcock Blu-Rays.

Gizmo 10-06-08 09:50 PM

The DC cut is 5 more minutes of footage...its like two scene extensions, thats it.

Here is the changes:

Spoiler:
* Melvin Belli (Brian Cox) talks about his Safari trip (when the Zodiac letter came to his house)
* Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) introduces himself to the Riverside Police Chief
* New scene between Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Avery (Robert Downey Jr.)
* 3-Way Conversation laying Leigh as suspect to get search warrant
* Extended audio montage (over a black screen)
* Plus extra bits of dialogue

Those have been listed at Amazon.com for a couple of months now, and it has to be the worst collection of films ever put together. The packagin is an actual cube with the BDs packed inside.

matome 10-09-08 08:16 AM

LOL, I guess you get what you pay for on those cube sets.

More titles (mostly catalogs) listed at DVDEmpire today:

Antwone Fisher - 1/20
The Boondock Saints - 1/13
Drumline - 1/13
The Pink Panther (1963) - 1/27
Unfaithful - 1/20
The Way of War - 2/10

bunkaroo 10-09-08 08:29 AM

Definitely in for Boondock Saints and Unfaithful.

I'd get Pink Panther but I'd rather see if they do a box set or at least give us A Shot In The Dark.

matome 10-09-08 08:33 AM

Hey bunkaroo, I was looking at your DVDprofiler page and the format seems to be different than most people, re. color and release date column. Can you customize the online format? I've been poking around with it but I don't see any options to change that in the interface. Now that I've been spoiled with DVDSpot, I abhor DVDAF's format.

bunkaroo 10-09-08 10:28 AM

You can dictate a few things like that in your account on the Invelos site. It's not in the standalone app.

If you log into your account on the Invelos site, go to My Profiler > Online Collection.

The only two colors they offer are "In Blue" and "Plum Peachy", so I went with the latter.

The default sort is Style Default, which I changed to Alpha By Title - that's the only other option. It must add the release date as part of the style.

Zen Peckinpah 10-09-08 12:16 PM

Probably will grab Boondock Saints.

Unfaithful...Diane Lane in 1080p

Also, I need Alien, Aliens, and Fight Club soon, Fox.

tonymontana313 10-09-08 01:48 PM

Whoa! Boondock Saints has been one of my wishlist titles on Blu-ray and it is a nice surprise to see a release for it.

I assume Giz has the UK disc listed here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...urayregcodi-21

According to bluray.liesinc.net it is is Region B locked. You would need a player than can be modified for region changing, like the LG BH200.
