According to bluray.liesinc.net it is is Region B locked. You would need a player than can be modified for region changing, like the LG BH200.

Yep - I have a LG 200 which is made Region free pretty easily.

Odd that a title that is in Public domain and release a million times on DVD has yet to come to Blu-ray from some random studio like Echo Bridge or Blu-ray Only.

Anyone know if The Rocker is still coming out on Blu-ray come Tuesday? I don't see either the DVD or Blu-ray listed in any of this weeks advertisements and it does not appear any review sites have gotten either version in. I know Amazon lists both...but they have been known to be wrong before or not update when items get delayed.

Tomorrow. But as I said, no reviewers (to my knowledge) have gotten the DVD or BD version and we never get any official specs. Just wondering if this oneis still coming out.

Gizmo 10-13-08 10:04 AM

Ok, apparently its delayed to the end of January now!

That would have been a speedy turnaround but I guess the box office spoke volumes.

Yeah, it was and we were all shocked by the October 14th date...but not it looks like its been pushed back two months. Its not in the ads and some are reporting not getting rental copies at their stores (Blockbuster typically gets them 2 weeks early). Bummer since I actually wanted to see this one.

Is the region free hack for BD only, or does it also work for SD? Trying to see if I could actually get down to 1 disc player...

Gizmo 10-13-08 03:59 PM

LG 200 can be made DVD region free, BD Region free as well as play PAL DVDs. AVSForums has a huge post on how to do it.

thanks, before I wade through what I assume is a giant post over there. Does it convert PAL -> NTSC? My TV can't accept PAL.

Ya know...I don't know that answer. I have 0 reasons to ever want to play a PAL DVD So I never actually tried it.

Keep in mind the thread is very easy to read and you will know your answer within a few minutes as its done FAQ style.

"Death Trance" !?? There is no "Death Trance" (2008). I'm hoping they mean "Death RACE". That will be mine.

matome 10-14-08 12:13 PM

I would imagine Death Race 2008 would probably be out on Blu by the end of the year, but I don't think it's been announced yet. That should be a pretty kicks ass looking and sounding disc.

This is the description of Death Trance that was from the listing, which is a Japanese movie:

A fearsome samurai hungering for the ultimate challenge is forced to do battle with a powerful temple monk intent on preventing ultimate destruction in an action-packed swordplay adventure in which the fate of the world lies in a mysterious coffin. Grave (Tak Sakaguchi) is a samurai whose power is unequaled by mortal man. In his desperate quest to find a suitable foe with whom to do battle, Grave steals an ancient coffin from the Tougan Temple said to contain the mythical Goddess of Destruction. Now, as Grave drags the coffin across the countryside in search of a way to pry it open and unleash the power contained inside, a temple monk charged with the task of ensuring the safety of mankind sets out to stop Grave from freeing the Goddess of Destruction even if it means sacrificing his own life in the process.

Source? I've been looking for this news daily.

And Merry Christmas.

Zen Peckinpah 10-16-08 07:27 AM

Death Race will probably be a purchase for me. This and Doomsday were my guilty pleasures of the year.

You know, "Doomsday" started out great for me, but turned into the worst Thunderdome type film. And I *****love***** "The Descent", so I was extremely disappointed. "Death Race" was so hugely entertainly from start to finish. And it will look and sound spectacular on BD. Lionsgate probably has the best PQ's.

Daytripper 10-16-08 11:44 AM

Can someone please post a link for the "Death Race" release? Thanks!

bunkaroo 10-16-08 12:46 PM

Kocheese has links to distributors or something to that effect (please correct me if I am wrong). He's pretty much his own source, and accurate as far back as I can remember.

Bluelitespecial 10-16-08 01:59 PM

Death Race and the House Bunny On 12/23 will be mine on blu-ray.
