personally? no. if there were a choice, i would always choose the shifting ratios. plus, one version only conserves bits for the best possible transfer. i certainly wouldn't begrudge WB though if they provided a choice.

There's a huge argument about this over on AVS. The argument is basically 1.78:1 is not the aspect ratio for IMAX and most people didn't even see it in IMAX anyway. For the record I would prefer seamless branching - just would like options. Or maybe show the IMAX scenes on the extras disc. I know I am going to cream my pants at the detail in these scenes either way. In no way is this a deal breaker. I'll still enjoy it the way it's coming.

1.78:1 is not the OAR for the IMAX scenes, but it is being reframed by Nolan to recreate the effect of seeing it in IMAX. It would defeat the purpose if, on a widescreen TV, the image went from 2.40:1 to 1.44:1. You'd be wondering why they traded black bars at the top and bottom for black bars on the sides. With 1.78:1, you get that wow factor of the image filling your whole screen.

Knowing that Nolan is doing the reframing for 1.78:1 is a relief. Given that the IMAX portions were framed for 1.44:1 with 2.40:1 in mind, the 1.78:1 framing should look just fine.

Like HTWWW, I'd prefer to see both the 2.40:1 version and the 'alternate AR' version in the same package, but this will, by no means, stop me from buying this disc.

Knowing that Nolan is the one handling this, im confident. I saw it both in IMAX and regular theater. The IMAX version of course, is sooo much better for those scenes. Im glad they are changing the aspect ratio.

I'd rather the whole movie be 2.40:1 or at least have the choice of that option.

This is also what I would like to see, but I think I'll get used to the aspect ratio switches on the Blu-ray release. My main issue with the switches in the IMAX presentation is that the non-IMAX footage looked a little blurry compared to the IMAX footage, but no worries about that on the Blu-ray.

At an IMAX theater the scope was fantastic which made the change really stand out, but I don't think it will have the same effect on my TV at home which kind of makes me indifferent about the aspect change.

I find it hard to believe that they didn't have any video interviews with Ledger on the set, because they not only interviewed everyone else at the time, but interviewed Ledger for magazines and website articles - on the set.

WB must have held them back when promoting the film and hopefully they'll show up here.

That's the rumor so far. Theres not alot of people that can confirm yet, but hopefully its true.

This should have been what they went with. Especially since the back of the slipcover is "defaced" by the Joker in the one they went with.

This might be the one title that I might pull a "xage" and get more than one copy of it. I would be all over a steelbook version and the LE with batpod as well.

We always get steelbooks, don't we? I've never heard of a U.S. only steelbook of a movie when Future Shop here carries them.

Its been posted around that FYE was offering 3 designs - Batman, Joker, Harvey Dent. These were supposed to be available for both DVD and Blu-ray.

I just called FYE and I was told - NO steelbooks for Blu-ray, and only one design for DVD.

Oh WB is going to milk Dark Knight like nobody's business. I wouldn't doubt another "special edition" Blu-ray for TDK to come around this time next year.

I'm still waiting for the Harry Potter films with audio commentaries, which at one point Warner's mentioned they'd release - I'm sure the uber-box set with everything (and the kitchen sink) will come out when the last film is released onto home video.

Maybe YOUR screen, but if you have a scope screen (2.40:1), this is going to suck.
