My preorders for the Gauntlet and Under Siege 2 shipped out yesterday for $19.95 each. They'd better not give me crap about adjusting those prices down.

:(

Yep I miss those sales. Fortunately, it's forced me to become more selective about my purchases.

Got mine yesterday from the Warner Bros. store for $13.97 each after the 30% coupon!

OT, but can I request Part IV be named either The Voyage Home or Sudden Impact?

Shagrath 09-03-08 12:18 PM

I don't know it it's really a deal or not, but Best Buy has a little flyer/pamphlet in stores called "Best Buy Insider". In it is a 10% off coupon for any blu-ray, as well as double Reward Zone points coupon. Both expire 9/30.

I used the last one they had (for August) and picked up A Clockwork Orange for $13.50, so it works fine on sale items. Could make for a small deal if you wanted to pick something up in-store.

You know, I picked those up the last couple of months and never noticed that there was a coupon in there. Thanks for the heads up!

When I bought a BD a few days ago, they couldn't get both to work it was either one or the other.

I took the 10% off.

Amazon has 40% off select Disney Blu-Rays which makes them $20.95 a piece:
  • Cars
  • Ratatouille
  • Pixar Short Films Collection
  • Meet the Robinsons
  • Dinosaur
  • Chicken Little

Not the best deal in the world, but good enough for some folks.

fumanstan 09-08-08 05:43 PM

Have Disney movies been part of any sales, or should I assume that this is probably the best I can get for the time being?

I've been meaning to get the Pixar Short Films Collection.

Disney Blu-rays have been in better sales. It's been a while, but I picked up a few some months back at Toys R Us and Target for about $15 each. I'm pretty sure the Pixar Short Films disc was in the Target sale.

Wouldn't hold my breath for that again, though. Some of the best deals I've seen lately are in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.

I can't speak for Dinosaur, but I have every other one of those and they are some of the best damn looking movies on the format. I'm waiting for a $10 deal on Dinosaur since reviews weren't too kind on the Blu transfer.

Agreed... especially Ratatouille.

Speedy has posted the next week's ad for Best Buy. They will have the Samsung BD-P1500 for $299.

Mr. Cinema 09-09-08 08:05 AM

Circuitcity.com has the Panasonic DMP-BD30 for $319.99.

Amazon now has it for $245.21. It's listed as $295.21, but put it in your cart and proceed to checkout. At checkout you will see $50 deducted from that price for a total of $245.21.

I haven't even tried, but are you sure that $50 deduction is universal? Is it possible you just have a $50 credit on your account?

I only ask, because I've never heard of Amazon doing a discount that way before.

It's not specific to my account. I first read about it at blu-ray.com. I thought it didn't work at first because I just put it in my cart without proceeding to checkout.

nmr1723 09-10-08 12:45 PM

I know some have found it for less, but I just purchased Planet Earth HD DVD (BBC version) on Amazon.com for $39.99.

This one is about to be replaced by the DMP-BD35. I'm not sure what is improved in the 35 vs. the 30. I hope SD upscaling performance, cause it ain't good in this unit.

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset $61.95 at Amazon right now. That's about 50% the MSRP.

Thanks for the heads up. I was hoping they'd hit the 50% off mark. I'm ordering now.

Family Video's price recently jumped to $70.

I ordered it too. Very good deal. I figure the first 2 are worth $31 each.

Amazon Blu-ray 3 for 2 Sale

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000272741

I think it's only Fox titles

How long does it usually take for a lower price to be reflected on an existing pre-order?

I'm not sure the upscaling will be improved in these units. I think both the new BD35 and BD55 are BD Live 2.0 and decode all lossless audio. But there has to be some difference between the two. Both players are slimmer than the previous models.

BTW, Amazon now has the Samsung 1500 for $293, same as the Panny BD30. Good to see some under $300 pricing for 1.1 units.

Mr. Cinema, Have you tried going to checkout with the Panny? Do you see the $50 discount on it making it $243.xx? Here is what I see at checkout right below shipping and handling in the itemized costs/discounts area:

"$50 off DMP-BD30K -$50.00"

In the past, I think I was charged the full price and then within a couple of days was sent a rebate notice.

I always play it safe and email them about the lower price.

I already own the unit, so I haven't. :)

But I will add it to the cart and see if it shows up.

EDIT: Yes, the $50 discount shows up for me.

The Panasonic DMP-BD30 for $243 is an absolute steal. I've owned it for almost a year now and it has been flawless. Highly recommended.

I really need to learn to start ordering earlier.

Now it's at 87.95. WTF?

I emailed and got my priced adjusted to 61.95 yesterday, but I placed a second order with the 61.95 price just in case. Glad I did - if they hadn't responded I'd be screwed.

I didn't know that Amazon automatically reduced the price if you had pre-ordered, so they dropped mine to $61.95. That's a pretty awesome system. As long as you remember what you pre-ordered, you could pre-order lots of titles, hope for a price drop, and if it never drops to a price you want, just cancel it right before it comes out. Cool.

I noticed the same thing yesterday on a video game I had pre-ordered. That must be a new feature.
