I was able to cancel and re-order. Saved exactly $17, but everything is now on backorder. Oh well, I have such a huge backlog and saving $17 makes it very easy to be patient.

Ugh, I caved in and bought the 6 Bonds. Considering I spent $170 at Sephora on make up and beauty products for my girlfriend earlier this morning, I figured it was only fair that I could spend $40 on Blu-rays.

Finally caved as well once they dropped the prices even more. Went for the 6 Bonds, Ice Age, Mrs Doubtfire, and then Night watch and Day Watch. $66 in total.

You know, if only my family were on top of such good deals, they'd know what to get me for gifts. Being able to get BRDs for around $6 a pop makes me feel incredibly guilty asking them for blu-rays for xmas when I know my gf or brother or mother would probably spend close to $30 at best buy or something. I can't happily unwrap a gift with that kind of feeling.

So, as a result and evidenced here, I end up buying it all for myself leaving them nothing to get me it seems. I'm just thankful that I'm apparently nice enough that they care to try.

I think most people that frequent the bargain forums are in the same boat. I have always averaged under $5 a DVD and under $10 a blu-ray. I can't have my normal shopping pattern friends and family spend triple that in good conscious, so I never ask for movies. Gift cards or clothes or household items are the norm.

Bestbuy.com is having a 2-day online sale. Among those items is the Godfather BD Collection, for only $41.99. They have several other Paramount catalog titles and new releases priced between $11.99 and $16.99.

There is a $10 off coupon for the Godfather Blu-ray set (in a big flyer for savings on a number of DVDs/Blu-rays) in the Sunday ads.

You may be able to get an additional $10 off if you can get them to match the price in store and apply the coupon. I'm sure this will be a big YMMV.

^^ flix 1, is this just a generic coupon ad? Or a Best Buy ad? I didn't see any such coupon in my Sunday paper, but would love to find it.

I was able to successfully order The Sopranos Season 6, pts 1&2 and The Best Of HD DVD vol 1 for $29.70 after taxes with free shipping. I already had BSG and Heroes but I did let one of my brothers know about Heroes since he was asking about it at Thanksgiving. BTW I was using Opera and experienced a good bit of hang time after clicking on the final submission page. It seemed to take well over a minute before it went to the order confirmation page. I probaly could have saved a few bucks if I had not tossed an email earlier today from Borders with a coupon code. Oh well, I didn't want to miss out.

Does this happen often? I just tried to order the Sopranos sets for my brother and got the same damn error.

I love how clicking the final order button is called a "feature". I get the below message.

"We're sorry. This feature is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

I just went through the order process again and it worked this time.

Of course, both Sopranos sets say "ships in 24 hours", yet my order status shows them as backorder.

I've already received a confirmation email. You might try Opera, it worked for me.

1 - Their coupons only work from the list price, so they would not have saved you anything.

2 - Don't bet too much on receiving these.

Why not? At some point all the retailers that still have HD DVDs will be unloading them at whatever they can get for them. I was surprised at the ridiculously high prices they had on quite a few of their HD DVDs. When I get a shipping confirmation or cancellation I'll post here.

Thanks for the heads-up! Ordered the Planet Earth HD-DVD set as I had $4.98 in Borders Bucks expiring today anyway...after shipping and tax, order total came to $8.15, now to just sit back, cross the fingers and hope this goes through!

Ouch. the listing page for Planet Earth now says

Planet Earth: The Complete Collection [HD]
HD-DVD
$98.99
Usually ships in 24 hours.

BSG still says 9.27.

Yeah, these will probably be cancelled. Some manager probably said "Sell this dead stuff, 10 bucks each." "Wait, there's season/box sets in there? Stop stop stop!"

Oh, and nice--the order acknowledgment email says "Backorder" but it says "ships in 24 hours" on
product page.
Are they sanely expecting people to pay full price for any of these? Even ten bucks for an HDDVD movie is too much, I would only pay that if it was a combo disk.
