Best Buy/Magnolia HT

Hey guys. I received a Best Buy/Magnolia HT flyer in the mail a couple days ago that advertises a Magnolia Home Theater Days event from Oct 19-Nov 1. Not too exciting in and of itself. However, it says that if you ask for a demo in one of their dedicated theater rooms, you will receive a coupon for $10 off your next Blu-ray movie purchase. The fine print says, verbatim, "Limit one Blu-ray coupon per customer", so it doesn't say whether it's just one per the event timeframe, per day, or per demo. It says the events are occurring in select stores, so YMMV. I'm in Columbia, MD.

If you prefer Poltergeist, then grab that one - but Indy does have TONS of great extras, looks awesome and is totally a must own Blu-ray. I love Poltergeist but with the lack of extras, I'm holding off for now... but then again, I think I'd personally watch Indy IV more times than I would Poltergeist, that one I only revisit every few years....

Darn, I was going to buy a couple of Blu-ray from amazon.com (much cheaper than amazon.ca even with their expensive shipping), and noticed that they have now added a "Customs/Duty Tax" to international orders. So for 3 disks: 13.xx shipping + 7.xx tax... The total was still a couple of bucks cheaper than at amazon.ca but with the dollar now at 0.86 cents, it's pretty much a wash...

Crap, I really need a US address.

Please say April Fools. Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's working properly yet as we shouldn't be getting this deposit.

Which products does the Import Fees Deposit apply to?

Eligible items sent via Priority International Shipping will have an estimated Import Fees Deposit applied to the order. Orders for some types of products may only be sent via Priority International Shipping and to certain eligible countries. For more information, see our Shipping Restrictions page. Orders for books, music, videos, or DVDs that are shipped via Standard International or Expedited International Shipping will not be subject to an estimated Import Fees Deposit.

I always ship via standard international, and should only apply to priority post, which makes sense

My order says "Stantard International" shipping and that charge (the correct caption is "Import Fees Deposit") is still applied. I even took two items off to get the total under the $20 Canadian limit for customs charges and still got an "Import Fees Deposit" charge of $2.41 on that single item.

This sucks, especially since amazon.com ships Canadian orders from within Canada. Looks like they are making us pay for having product stored in a Canadian warehouse in the first place...

Fuck. It was hard to justify using Amazon when they jacked shipping cost to Canada up at the start of the year, and now with this (and the plummet of the dollar) I probably won't bother... I'm pretty angry right now to tell you the truth.

just found this In the event that the Import Fees Deposit exceeds the Actual Import Fees, Amazon Export or Merchant (as applicable) will refund the difference to you. I call bullshit on that - because so far the fees have been ZERO and they still felt a need to add this....

After my Sweeney Todd/Incredible Hulk/Sleeping Beauty b2g1 order ships on Tuesday, I'm going to give them a piece of my mind!

It's a "deposit" so it can be refundable!

As I said before, I tried a 1 item order (under the $20 CDN limit for custom's charges) and still got a $2.41 "Import Fees Deposit". I can just imagine the nightmare of getting that refunded... Moreover, we don't have a clue on how they calculate this. So even if I manage to calculate the correct Import Fees on a shipment and the value is lower than the "Deposit" they charged me, what proof would they require in order for me to get a refund? My guess is they woudn't have a clue.... Ridiculous.

Here's a little added bonus for Wall-E and some other Disney Titles (Sleeping Beauty, Prince Caspian, and Tinkerbell). Get $5 via mail in rebate when you buy Wall-E Blu-ray and 2 Minute Maid cartons of OJ or other juice products. Yes, you need a Proof of Purchase tab from the Blu-ray (which may mean cutting the cover).

Got my flyer in the mail yesterday. Looks like I'll be paying them a visit.

Thanks for the heads-up Sid!

If you combine this with Bill Me Later payment and use code BMLSAVES, you can save an additional $10 (if the total BEFORE removal of the free one is over $50).

A number of those titles are over 40% off. Maybe they did raise some. I know we went through this whole thing before on the last sale. I think the basic conclusion was that they raised the prices on some, but the prices were returning towards their "normal" prices instead of sale prices. It's not like Amazon is only taking 20% off MSRP now. If your complaining about these prices, it seems you are just looking for excuses to complain.

Most of these were anywhere from $2-$10 cheaper yesterday. All the Warner budget titles went up $2-$4, NASA went up $5, Fox titles...wow. Its just becoming a joke to see these fake sales when in reality, you are not saving much from the day before. If its a bad deal, I'll call them out on it. Why be forced to buy 3 titles today when you only really want 2? Just wait till the sale is done and buy them at the lower, everyday price.

Can someone go to lightningdeals.com and see what the deals are specifically and then post them? That site is blocked at my work for some reason.

They don't even say...the Amazon clues are, "Spelunk into terror with this horror flick. (On Blu-ray)" and "A killer movie starring a dark knight. (On Blu-ray)."

So I'm betting "The Descent" and "American Psycho" . . .

No reason to guess about price increases.

http://www.cinemasquid.com/PriceAdjustments.aspx

Find out for yourself and do the math.

I personally am disappointed that there are 6 pages of titles and only 1 that I want and don't have - and I don't have a huge collection.
