Wall-E and Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian $29.98 for both at Amazon.com. I got an e-mail about this but I don't see any formal announcement on the website for the sale. Just add them both to the cart and you should see the discount. I don't know if this is just good for today or not.

AmazonUK has The Tudors: Complete Seasons 1 And 2 [Blu-ray] for £29.14 shipped to the USA (after removing VAT). Comes out to about $42.

Also just picked up Life On Mars: Season 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray at BlahDVD for £29.86 shipped. Each set is around £14 + shipping. That's about $43 total.

PGHFlyer 01-01-09 12:21 PM

Thanks Big Dave - I didn't realize that show was available in region free Blu-Ray.

Thanks for the tip. I've been waiting for awhile to pick up The Tudors so this is a great deal for me to jump in.

Target has a few Universal catalogs for $14.99 this week:

American Gangster
Casino
Hulk (2003)
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Knocked Up

That's all I saw this morning. Serenity is not part of the sale.

Quake1028 01-04-09 10:04 AM

BB has a 2 for $35 BD sale. The only problem is, a good amount of the titles are $14.99, resulting in this:

Way to go, BB.

Small FYI -

Amazon.co.uk has both Friday the 13th Part 2 and 3 for £13.98. Which shipping (and VAT) it comes to about $46 American. No idea if/when Paramount will bring these to America.

nmr1723 01-04-09 10:17 PM

I was at my local Kroger doing some grocery shopping today and happened on a bin in the seasonal aisle with a ton of HD DVD combo discs. They are selling them as DVD's with bonus HD version. The titles ranged from $3.99 - $7.99.

Here are the titles I remember seeing (I think all Universal)
Accepted
Half Baked
Animal House
The Kingdom
Breach
Hot Fuzz
Elizabeth: The Golden Age
American Werewolf in London
Land of the Dead
Army of Darkness
Miami Vice
Mr. Bean's Holiday
Evan Almighty
The Evening (?)
The Breakfast Club
The Scorpion King
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Unleashed
Jet Li's Fearless
Alpha Dog
Children of Men
Smokin' Aces
You, Me, and Dupree
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Hollywoodland
Dazed and Confused
Easter Promises
The Good Shepherd
Slither

I think that is it...

Ralph's and other Kroger divisions may have these as well...

There's a specific bargain thread about the Kroger HD-DVDs. People are posting which locations have them since it is YMMV. So check that thread before heading out.

Best Buy has Eagle Eye on sale for $22.99 this week.

lizard 01-05-09 07:48 PM

As mentioned in a thread in the main Bargains forum: Hastings has a B1G1F sale through January 10. The manager of the store in my area said it applied to all Blu-ray Discs. YMMV! I picked up a couple of used discs, showed the clerk the ad and told him what the manager had said, and he checked me out with no problem.

While most new BDs seem to be at or near MSRP, some are not. For example, I saw the recently released BD of Serenity for $21.99 (MSRP 29.95), so it could be had for $11. I haven't been tracking that title, but it seemed like a pretty good price. My local Hastings had a large selection of BDs and they were arranged alphabetically, except for end-cap displays. Made looking through them a lot easier than most stores I have seen.

Also on sale was a Memorex (Funai) BD player for $150.

Yep, had 3 $18 titles in my cart last night, now they're all $23. It's still about the cheapest you can get these 3 (new, anyways), but I don't think I'll order just so I'm not feeding Amazon's stupidity.

FWIW, those dismayed at the uptick in pricing for certain Warner catalog titles in the Amazon B2G1 sale, Costco still has them priced at $12.99 each.

Amazon.fr B1G1
Transporter 1 and 2 are region free, UNCUT and have better PQ than the domestic releases. Got both shipped for $43 USD. Confirm the details for yourself incase the info I got was wrong. Don't be mad at me if they aren't region free or something.

Amazon has some real balls to announce the sale a few days ago with low prices and then jack them up when the sale goes live.

Do what I do... Boycott Amazon's BD's. Don't buy any BD from them.

If it isn't a real sale (raising prices and then offering a discount on multiple purchases is not a real sale), don't order from them.

If there's a movie I want, I'll buy it if the price is right no matter how that price is obtained. I don't see what the big deal is. Amazon still ends up being the cheapest price for me for a lot of movies, so just because they raise prices to keep them in check for this sale doesn't bother me.

Completely agree, except on this sale where they announced it with lower prices. That's a pretty shady tactic there, but I still order just about every BD from Amazon.

I think that's the only reason it annoyed me. I usually don't see the sales until they start, so seeing the prices higher isn't a big surprise. This deal did indeed seem pretty shady, for Amazon anyways.

I agree with that, it's weird for them to announce the deal days beforehand. Although everyone kind of expected the prices to go up anyway, so I don't think it's too big of a surprise.

True. However, from my experience Amazon's pricing is still cheaper than any where else.

bub 01-07-09 12:53 AM

Re: One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread Part III: Back in Training

For me, it's the principle of the thing. Prices are always going to go down at some time in the future, probably even on Amazon. I'm not saying don't buy anything from them ever, just don't buy any of their BD's during this sale. There's nothing I absolutely have to have right now.

They want to jerk their prices up and then offer a 3 for 2 'so called' sale and expect me to patronize them, they have another think coming.

I think it a bit absurd to claim that raising prices before a %off or 2 for 1 sale is 'ok'. You can't honestly raise prices 25% and then start a 25% off sale, it's pretty simple stuff. I mean, if it doesn't bother you, buy their stuff. It bothers me and I hope it bothers most people and eventually/hopefully Amazon gets the message.

Re: One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread Part III: Back in Training

I agree. The whole point of a SALE...is well, a sale. A sale is not baiting consumers in by offering low prices, then advertising you're going to do a B2G1 on them as well, while slipping in higher prices. Amazon knew everyone was getting their lists together. And it's a shame, really. While I will buy from them (I placed one order before the prices took effect but highly doubt I'll be ordering again unless they lower prices), this will leave a bad taste in my mouth, and my respect for them was just lowered a notch. What this means is normally I buy something from Amazon, even if it is a few bucks more. But shit like this, I'm going to be using alternative sources and double-checking to make sure Amazon is the only source, versus just automatically ordering from Amazon.

Come on, Amazon. Blu-ray consumers don't need to be played with at this point. Especially in this economy.

fumanstan 01-07-09 01:31 AM

Re: One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread Part III: Back in Training

The whole point of a sale is to get items at a discounted price. Generally, with most of the titles in the B2G1 you'll get them cheaper on average then on a regular basis so in that case it most definitely is a sale. That shouldn't be a question. It's not like Blu-rays advertised in Best Buy's flyer for $29.99 or anything.

The complaints here remind me of those that still complain year after year about Deep Discount pricing during the 20% off sales.

I like Amazon and their Black Friday sale kicked the shit out of everybody else, but it still always comes down to where to get it cheapest and most convenient, regardless of the retailer. Loyalty means a lot, but if things like this really irk you, then honestly there would be very few retailers that you would shop at :)

Amazon.co.uk has better sales than Amazon.com right now it seems. Look at some of the deals I got today:

Delivery estimate: 16 Jan 2009 - 22 Jan 2009
Dispatch estimate for these items: 8 Jan 2009

Paranoid Park BD
Mad Detective: Masters of Cinema BD
Terminator 2: Judgement Day Director's Cut BD
Total Recall BD
The Tudors: Complete Seasons 1 And 2 BD
Predator 2 BD

Note that none of these are available here with the same kind of presentations.

Grand Total: £80.99

Approx $120.

Re: One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread Part III: Back in Training

One thing to consider is that these prices Amazon is raising were technically "sale" prices to begin with (or, at least, discounted from their alleged "regular" prices). So, really, they're not raising their "regular" prices; they're going from one sale to another. And in almost every case, the prices of the B2G1 sale are utimately lower than those of the previous sale.

In retail we used to call it the undertakers discount. Raise the prices then discount it to call it a sale. It's a good thing your husband died this week Mrs. Jones because we have this sleek beauty in Oak or Black for 25% off this week only.

Truth in advertising: buy 2 get 50% off a third choice.
