I think I paid $70 so when I saw the Borders deal for $55 I jumped on it. I should have known if Borders was selling for $55 someone else would do better

BoB was $35.62 in my gold box today.

Thanks for the tip

My local BBV has a bunch of BDs marked down to $17.99 (old releases as well as current ones).

One of them was Hellboy II, so I picked that up.

YMMV so you might want to swing by and see if there is anything you're looking for.

fumanstan 12-22-08 09:56 PM

Yeah, the Hellboy 2 deal was also posted in the DVD Bargains forum. I got a flyer from Blockbuster in the Sunday paper with the deal listed so I think it should be good most places. I was thinking about getting it as a blind buy myself.

tonymontana313 12-22-08 10:28 PM

Someone mentioned at blu-ray.com that there is a special holiday promo that should bring the Hellboy 2 BD to 14.99. You just have to tell them to use it or something to that effect.

Oh well... I already opened mine. Do you think if I took the receipt back they'd give me $3 back?

Which creates another question... would BBV actually care about their customers enough to do it? ;)

Moopher 12-23-08 10:45 PM

I don't know if it's been mentioned... but Best Buy has about five or six 2-packs of bunled blu-rays that are priced at $29.99. I can only name two off the top of my head (Nacho Libre/Spiderwick Chronicles and Face-Off/Next).

One pack has Cloverfield and Sleepy Hollow. That is a reasonable deal but I personally purchased both titles for less. It is also a bit of a weird pack IMHO. Both movies are good though so this might be worth a look.

tonymontana313 12-24-08 12:50 AM

I believe Amazon has the Paramount 2 packs for 26.99.

Never buying new releases again for Amazon. Screwed several times over in the past few days. No more price guarantee = me waiting.

Same here. Unless it's something I must have on day 1 like TDK. Even Best Buy has done similar sales where on week 1, a certain release is $27.99, but a few weeks later, it's $5 cheaper. Target is guilty as well. I think I can wait also.

tlwizard 12-26-08 10:28 AM

How low do we think Dirty Harry will go in the next 6 months?

The set's always been attractive, at this price it's a possibility, but I still think that above $10 per disc is a little too high. Although I did bite when the Planet of the Apes collection hit $70.

Atleast with Target you can return a sealed item up to 90 days later for a full refund (so if it does become cheaper, you rebuy it and return it with your more "expensive" receipt). I am getting so pissed that titles are dropping $5-$10 in the course of a week and Amazon won't price match their own damn website. Hell, even the Criterions are on sale for $5 less! I think for now on, I will buy new releases at Target and if Amazon becomes cheaper in 90 days buy it from them and return it back to Target.

Darknite39 12-26-08 12:07 PM

FYI, Justice League S1 just dropped in my Amazon cart to 28.99. Despite the A/R controversy, it's not too bad a price.

Whoops, Moopher--didn't check your links before I posted. Not trying to steal your thunder! ;)

Haha no problem! I'm always up for a good deal, and that Justice League set is a good one for sure. I paid $35 for it when it came out, and I really like it.

kevin75 12-26-08 04:14 PM

i wonder if the matrix set will go down lower than the 65.99 it's at right now on amazon?

I'm tempted, but the dvd set is holding me out until this hits rock bottom pricing.

Yeah, it's a good but not great price for me right now... I'm undecided.

It's in my Gold Box, so it's actually 62 bucks and change at the moment. Unfortunately I already bought in the Deep Discount sale last month.

tsetse27 12-27-08 01:18 PM

for those who interested in the UK import,

almost all the ITV titles has lower to 9.XX Pounds today at Amazon-UK. It is the lowest price I have seem. (also now is the time to take advantage of current stronger exchange rate.)

Gizmo 12-27-08 01:24 PM

What is ITV?

ITV titles includes Ipcress File, Black Narcissus, The Eagle Has Landed, Capricorn One, Escape To Athena... etc, I read they all have pretty good review.

Also Zulu is 12.98 now which I think is pretty good price (not ITV titles.)

I ordered them all... maybe a bit too much Michael Caine in my blu collection :))

DVD Polizei 12-27-08 02:00 PM

Amazon.co.uk has a Buy 3 For 2 deal. I ordered Zulu, Almost Famous Director's Cut, and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind 30th Anniversary for $45 shipped. Zulu looks absolutely fantastic from what I've seen.

Currently, Close Encounters on Blu in the US is $32, so what the hek.

If you haven't already, you may want to check out the thread over at AVS regarding Zulu. There are screencaps in the thread that look great to me, but many are complaining about excessive DNR being applied. I plan on buying it anyways as it blows away the R1 MGM dvd.

Do you have a link? Has it ended? I don't see it anywhere and I don't get any discount at checkout.

Gizmo 12-27-08 03:56 PM

Amazon.co.uk has a special section for the buy 2 get 1 free promotion on their BD page.

I'm gonna have to question some of those screenshots at AVS. I went to DVD Beaver and those screencaps show more grain and less "smooth" areas. I'll have to capture the same screenshots myself when I get it.

The reason why some screenshots look smoothed is because at the particular frame a screenshot is taken, there could be slight movement of the subject or the subject is just slightly out of focus. Which is why when I do it, I do several frames forward and back to make sure it's a fair representative.

To be fair, I've commented about TDK with some doubts, but that's another debate.

It's funny looking through the titles... I didn't realize so many of these movies were released in the U.S. because the cover art is soo much better on just about every single title.

Mr. Cinema 12-28-08 08:02 AM

YMMV of course, but I stopped in my local Super Center WM this morning and they had a display for the new Paramount 2 packs.

I think these were $19.92: Shooter/Italian Job, Patriot Games/Sum of All Fears, Face-Off/Next.

I believe The Ruins/Tomb Raider, Cloverfield/Sleepy Hollow were both $29+ each.

Drexl 12-28-08 09:41 AM

I wish they'd bundle Sweeney Todd with The Hunt for Red October, so I could knock out 2 titles I haven't gotten around to yet for some reason. I know they're very different, but so are Nacho Libre and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

B5Erik 12-28-08 09:48 AM

Why the hell is Patriot Games bundled with Sum of All Fears? Shouldn't it be with Clear and Present Danger? (It would make more sense to me - then again, I guess they wouldn't sell many copies of Sum otherwise...)

It's been my experience that these combo packages usually involve one of two things: 1) There's one movie I want and another I have no interest in; or 2) There's one movie I want and I already have the other. It is usually the former since they love to package a poor seller with a good one.
