Agreed.

Wait until the Sony S350 comes with this deal (which it probably will in the future).

Not bad but shipping puts it at $59.50. Amazon is $63 + free shipping. I'll probably just stick with that. Although with the couple orders I've had with Wherehouse, I've been impressed with shipping speed.

Lost Season 4 is now down to $52.95 at Amazon.

Do they automatically lower the price if you have it pre-ordered, or do you have to ask?

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. They automatically updated mine. I ordered this as part of the B2G1 with Caspian & Shawshank. $83 for all three.

Everything i've read about the P1500 seems to point to it being a decent player and not as bad as their earlier ones. Probably no Sony, but it seems to do the job

That is my reading of user reports as well. It is considered to be a pretty solid player, unlike some earlier models.

Wanted to give a heads up, Amazon has Wall-E 3-disc (Digital Copy included) and the 2-disc set for the same price of $24.95. Pretty good deal.

Yea, they've had that deal going for a couple of weeks now. I was going to avoid the digital copy, but for the same price, why the hell not?!

because at the end of the day all Disney sees is which version sold more. If the overpriced SRP version with the digital copy sells more, you bet your ass those will be the only versions on future releases.

As long as it is the same price as the 2-disc set then it is not overpriced. I'll take one please!

Yea, since the digital copy is not worth negative or 0 dollars to me, plus I imagine that only the 3 disc will include a slipcover, it's a purchase.

I'll worry about potential future Disney releases that don't give the option with the digital copy as they (potentially) come along.

I agree, but I'm not sure it's going to matter much. Most other stores will still charge more for the DC version, which should keep enough people from buying it. It will be interesting to see how they compare sales wise.

They already did - Nightmare Before Christmas. It was forced with a Digital Copy and they upped the MSRP $5. It sold fairly well (as it would anyway because its a 'cult' classic)

I'm aware-- I own it. Got it for $22.99.

 You guys are too easy. It doesn't matter what you paid for it, all they see on their end is that they racked up two more sales of the more expensive version. I can't support that. It would be different if we were talking about including an SD disc ala Sleeping Beauty.

I agree. I have no interest in a digital copy but it would be nice to get a bonus SD.

flix1 10-13-08 10:57 AM

One point I am confused on ...

Is "Digital Copy" the same as "SD-DVD"?

For example, the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray included a single SD-DVD with the movie on it in addition to the 2 Blu-rays in the package. Although unnecessary, it was nice to have the SD-DVD so now the kids have something to watch during car trips.

Up until now, I had understood "Digital Copy" as a way to put it on your computer, iPOD or other device, but had not thought it was an actual DVD.

Digital Copy = A copy of the film, sometimes on a DVD and sometimes just a code, that can be entered in online/iTunes and allow a digital copy (under 1 GB)to be downloaded to your computer. This file can be transfered to your iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP whatever (all depends on the studio). This will NOT play in normal DVD players.

SD DVD = Well, so far only present in Sleeping Beauty BD. This was a DVD copy of the film. If this went over well, I think we might see this more in the future with childrens films as they are the ones that tend to watch movies in several different places (Living room, bedroom, Car, portable DVD player etc)

I'm not too concerned. That isn't ALL they see- I'm sure they conduct extensive marketing research on their product ideas and combine it with observed consumer behavior data. I wouldn't be surprised if these titles getting dual blu-ray releases feature surveys via the BDLive interface, perhaps even asking how much you paid for the title. Didn't some people report getting Sleeping Beauty surveys after signing up for BDLive?

Really, I evaluate purchases on a title-by-title basis and do what's best for me with each title. If I perceived my behavior in this case as a threat to the "right" course for Disney blu-ray, perhaps I'd feel differently. I will, however, do my best to let Disney Consumer Relations know that the title was ONLY purchased because of price equality.

movielib 10-13-08 01:22 PM

Lost S4 turned up in my Amazon gold box today for $50.30. I bit.

Also had TDK there for $23.70 but I think there will be better deals.

movielib 10-13-08 01:30 PM

Sendit.com in the UK has a 3 for 2 deal:

http://www.sendit.com/sendit/sendit/...2-blu-ray.list

Prices aren't that great and they don't remove VAT like Amazon. But they've got some not available here like Air Force One and Starship Troopers without the editing error (although with fewer extras). Both region free. Of course, be sure to check region compatibility for anything you order from there.

kenbenobi 10-14-08 11:06 AM

Frys.com has a lot of cheap HD-DVD's right now (two as low as $2.99 and 3.99, several for 5.99 and 6.99). They have Zodiac for 11.99, which was cheap enough for me. That title is hard to find a bargain on... I bought 7 titles, and shipping was $6.64 total.

flix1 10-14-08 01:30 PM

Posted this in the Ultimate Matrix warning thread, but thought it deserved to be here too ...

The Ultimate Matrix Blu-ray collection has been lowered to $74.95 on Amazon to match Best Buy's $74.99 price this week.

On Amazon ... you can get it down to $64.95 with the BML $10 off coupon, BMLSAVES, if you use BML (Bill Me Later) for payment.

That's cheaper than what I paid for the original Ultimate Matrix Trilogy on DVD when it was first released.

bunkaroo 10-14-08 01:34 PM

Don't you have to use Bill Me Later to use the code? I tried it just now and it didn't work.

Yes, you need to use bill me later. Although, in the past, there was a glitch where if you used gift certs that covered the total, you'd be able to get around having to use bill me later.

I don't think that workaround is currently working, however.

Yes. Added that to my post. Sorry.

I have used BML for the past few months, as they always seem to have unlimited use coupons available (or at least the work unlimited).

Works just like a Credit Card, and I get a statement each month that I pay online, like everything else.

Goldberg74 10-15-08 08:10 AM

Not a super deal, but The Dark Knight (preorder) dropped from $26.95 to $24.95 at Amazon.

sbelli 10-15-08 12:12 PM

Not a huge savings, but Poltergeist is on a "temporary price cut" at Target for $22.99. I got a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon so I think I'm going to bite at $17.99.

Trying to decide between Poltergeist or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Obviously the former is a much better movie, but IJ would probably get more use in the house with the kids.

Funny how IJ is PG-13 and I have no problems letting my 5 and 9-year-olds watching it. But Poltergeist is only PG (don't think there was the -13 option then) but I definately won't let them watch it (particularly the 5-year-old). It even creeped me out when I saw it at age 13 in the theaters.

I guess that is why it is called "Parental Guidance."

Jim 10-15-08 02:36 PM

I think Poltergeist came out before PG-13 was a rating. Nowadays when we see a PG there is basically nothing to be concerned about, but older PG films before the PG-13 rating came around can sometimes surprise you if you have little ones watching.

matome 10-15-08 03:08 PM

Yeah, I believe Poltergeist was one of the films that began the ball rolling on the PG-13 rating. Indy & the Temple of Doom & Red Dawn were a couple of others I think.

If I remember right "Red Dawn" was the first film to be released with the PG-13 rating. "Poltergeist", "Temple of Doom" and "Gremlins" were all titles which helped bring it about, and Spielberg himself was instrumental in the creation of the new rating.

matome 10-15-08 03:30 PM

Yep, you're right. I confused Red Dawn with Gremlins. I think Red Dawn may actually have gotten an R rating if it was released today, with all the violence involving kids especially.

I agree. I am far from a prude, but there's a few older PG films that I think may even be rated 'R' now (or at least require a few cuts to get down to PG-13). I've had a few on that I remember thinking were funny and the kids might like, but then...oops, I guess I didn't remember it being so inappropriate.

Anyway, sorry to get the thread on a tangent.

Best Buy/Magnolia HT

Hey guys. I received a Best Buy/Magnolia HT flyer in the mail a couple days ago that advertises a Magnolia Home Theater Days event from Oct 19-Nov 1. Not too exciting in and of itself. However, it says that if you ask for a demo in one of their dedicated theater rooms, you will receive a coupon for $10 off your next Blu-ray movie purchase. The fine print says, verbatim, "Limit one Blu-ray coupon per customer", so it doesn't say whether it's just one per the event timeframe, per day, or per demo. It says the events are occurring in select stores, so YMMV. I'm in Columbia, MD.

If you prefer Poltergeist, then grab that one - but Indy does have TONS of great extras, looks awesome and is totally a must own Blu-ray. I love Poltergeist but with the lack of extras, I'm holding off for now... but then again, I think I'd personally watch Indy IV more times than I would Poltergeist, that one I only revisit every few years....

eXcentris 10-16-08 10:24 AM

Darn, I was going to buy a couple of Blu-ray from amazon.com (much cheaper than amazon.ca even with their expensive shipping), and noticed that they have now added a "Customs/Duty Tax" to international orders. So for 3 disks: 13.xx shipping + 7.xx tax... The total was still a couple of bucks cheaper than at amazon.ca but with the dollar now at 0.86 cents, it's pretty much a wash...

Crap, I really need a US address. :)

actyper 10-16-08 10:52 AM

Please say April Fools. Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's working properly yet as we shouldn't be getting this deposit.

Which products does the Import Fees Deposit apply to?

Eligible items sent via Priority International Shipping will have an estimated Import Fees Deposit applied to the order. Orders for some types of products may only be sent via Priority International Shipping and to certain eligible countries. For more information, see our Shipping Restrictions page. Orders for books, music, videos, or DVDs that are shipped via Standard International or Expedited International Shipping will not be subject to an estimated Import Fees Deposit.

I always ship via standard international, and should only apply to priority post, which makes sense

eXcentris 10-16-08 01:39 PM

My order says "Stantard International" shipping and that charge (the correct caption is "Import Fees Deposit") is still applied. I even took two items off to get the total under the $20 Canadian limit for customs charges and still got an "Import Fees Deposit" charge of $2.41 on that single item.

This sucks, especially since amazon.com ships Canadian orders from within Canada. Looks like they are making us pay for having product stored in a Canadian warehouse in the first place...
